Peter Phillips' Wife Harriet Recalls 'Painful' Experience of Raising Daughter Georgina Alone
Harriet Phillips looks back on the painful experience of raising daughter Georgina alone and how faith helped her through single motherhood.
Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling tied the knot in 2026, two years after their relationship first came to light. Their wedding brought together prominent members of the Royal Family, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Kate. But before becoming Phillips’ wife, Harriet had a very different life, raising her daughter Georgina as a single mother.

Harriet's relationship with Peter also brought her and Georgina into the public eye, which must have been quite a change for the two of them. However, she seems proud of how her daughter has handled the sudden attention and the changes in their lives. Speaking exclusively to HELLO!, she said, “She's very serene and emotionally very mature. She takes it all in her stride.”
The conversation then turned to a more personal chapter in Harriet's life as she looked back on the challenges of raising Georgina on her own. The former nurse revealed, “Although at times it was a painful experience, I did have the support of people who loved us.” She added, “Any time in life when you're under pressure or facing adversity, something good always comes from it. Lean in; don't be scared.”

Harriet also spoke about how her faith helped guide her through those difficult years, acknowledging that everyone faces unique struggles: "Everyone has challenges in life that are dressed up differently." She added, “Good things come to those who wait, and meeting Peter was a part of the journey. I am enormously proud of my daughter and who she is. We are very close.”
Harriet and Phillips’ marriage has also brought a new family dynamic for Georgina, who now has two stepsisters, Savannah and Isla. Both girls are Phillips’ daughters from his previous marriage to Autumn Kelly.

Harriet also opened up about meeting her new mother-in-law, Princess Anne, for the first time. She admitted there were some nerves before being introduced to Phillips’ family, but the meeting turned out to be a lovely and relaxed affair. She recalled sitting with Anne on garden benches at Gatcombe, enjoying cups of tea. She said the experience was much like when her husband first met her family, adding that it "couldn't have been nicer."
