King Charles Left in the Dark? Harry's Travel Plans Trigger Palace Frustration
Prince Harry's upcoming trip to the UK is already creating tension behind palace doors, with reports claiming the Palace has been left "weary."
Prince Harry's upcoming trip to the UK is already creating fresh tension behind palace doors, with Buckingham Palace reportedly left "weary and wary" over the uncertainty surrounding his travel plans. Although the Duke of Sussex is expected to arrive within hours, close sources say King Charles is still waiting for confirmation on where his younger son will stay—and whether the two will even meet during the visit. While the King offered Harry accommodation on the royal estate for the duration of his stay, palace insiders claim they have yet to receive an official response.
Interestingly, the Duke of Sussex's close aides have been telling media outlets that he intends to accept the offer and split his time between a royal property and private accommodation, yet they have not bothered to inform the King. As per the Daily Mail, this uncertainty has deeply frustrated those at Buckingham Palace. Sources described the situation as "an absolute mess" and noted that it has left them questioning Harry's true intentions, despite claims from Team Sussex that the Duke wants to rebuild family ties.
"If that's the case, he's going a funny way about it," one insider remarked. Another source with close links to the royal household told the Daily Mail this week that, contrary to some suggestions, His Majesty is not desperate to build bridges; however, as a compassionate man, he remains more than willing to meet his son if that is what Harry truly wants. The Prince has reportedly seen his father only twice over the past two years and is also believed to be waiting on a final decision regarding the security arrangements he and his family will receive while visiting Britain.
While several rumors are swirling, Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the Sussexes' travel plans. A Los Angeles-based business associate of Harry's claimed there had been a "warming of the frost" between Harry and Charles in recent months. However, persistent speculation over whether the Sussexes will stay with the royal family has reportedly tested the Palace's patience.
Royal insiders are also concerned about Harry raising the possibility of bringing his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, only to suggest he might change those plans if armed police protection is not provided. The children have not seen their grandfather, King Charles, in person since June 2022, when they visited Britain for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. Meghan Markle is also expected to accompany Harry on the trip; alongside attending the Invictus event in Birmingham, she is scheduled to visit the Royal Hospital Chelsea with her husband. However, their children will not be accompanying them to any public engagements.
One person familiar with the situation told the Mail, "For the sake of family harmony, the Palace would have been perfectly happy with a peaceful and low-key visit. Yet, once again, they have turned it into a soap opera. It's tiresome." Ultimately, what could have been a private opportunity for a father and son to reconnect has instead become another logistical headache for Buckingham Palace.
