Kate Middleton Reportedly Had a Crush on Prince William Long Before They Even Met
Kate and William began dating after meeting as students at the University of St. Andrews.
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship has long been seen as one of the most celebrated modern royal love stories. They began dating when they met as students at the University of St. Andrews in the early 2000s, and their love for each other quietly grew over the years, even surviving the intense media scrutiny and a brief split. They got engaged in 2010, and in the following year, the royal couple got married in a grand ceremony at Westminster Abbey. However, one of Kate's friends has revealed that the now Princess of Wales had a crush on William even before they met each other.
Kate's former classmate, Jessica Hay, who attended Marlborough College with her, once shared that while most of the girls spent their time discussing boys they liked at school, the future princess's attention was fixed somewhere else. According to Jessica, who was also linked to William’s Eton mentor Nicholas Knatchbull, Kate already liked William. As reported by HELLO Magazine, she said, "Catherine would always say, 'I don't like any of them [the boys]… there's no one quite like William. I bet he's really kind. You can just tell by looking at him.'"
It's worth noting that Kate had an advantage from the very beginning, as William had a highly visible life. He was the eldest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, hence the constant public spotlight. It was due to this reason that Kate already formed a clear impression of William even before they met in real life. Previously, the Prince of Wales spoke about how their relationship began and said, "We obviously met at university, at St Andrews, we were friends for over a year first, and it just sort of blossomed from then on."
He added, "We just spent more time with each other, had a good giggle, had lots of fun, and realized we shared the same interests and just had a really good time." Kate also expressed her feelings, stating that she often turned 'bright red' when she met the prince. She confessed, "Actually, William wasn't there for quite a bit of the time initially; he wasn't there for Fresher's Week, so it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other, but we did become very close friends from quite early on."
Moreover, during an interview for the documentary titled When Ant and Dec Met The Prince: 40 Years of the Prince's Trust, William shared his views on how starting a family with Kate changed his personality for the better. The couple now has three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Meanwhile, in just a few days (on April 29th), the royal couple is all set to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary. Before that, on April 23, Louis is set to turn six, reaching a milestone that is often celebrated with the release of an adorable new portrait for the public, as reported by HOLA! Magazine.
