Kate Middleton Pays Tribute to Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana In The Sweetest Way Possible
For the special occasion, the future queen opted to wear an elegant cream-colored outfit by Self Portrait.
Kate Middleton is known to make statements and pay tributes with her outfits. But along with them, her choice in jewelry has frequently sparked public fascination, as many of her accessories are widely believed to carry symbolic meaning. The Princess of Wales is known for wearing heirloom pieces once owned by popular senior royals like Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana. For instance, at the recent garden party she and Prince William hosted at Buckingham Palace, Kate stepped out in an elegant outfit, but it was her carefully chosen jewelry that drew special attention from royal watchers. This time, she reportedly honored both Elizabeth and Diana.
For the occasion, the future queen opted to wear an elegant cream-colored outfit by Self Portrait and a flowing black-and-white polka dot skirt. She paired the stylish look with a matching hat and completed the look with a bracelet chosen from her own jewelry collection. According to The Court Jeweller, the three-row pearl bracelet reportedly belonged to her late mother-in-law, Diana. The piece was designed by Nigel Milne in 1988 for a special collection related to Birthright, a UK charity focused on supporting mothers and babies. The late princess served as patron of the organization at the time.
Not just this, Kate also paid a subtle tribute to Elizabeth by wearing the late monarch’s Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings. These have recently become one of Kate’s go-to jewelry choices and are now a regular part of her royal wardrobe. As reported by InStyle, the pair of earrings was made using pearls gifted to Queen Elizabeth by the Hakim of Bahrain as a wedding present when she was a Princess. It features round diamond studs with an elegant drop design made of baguette and round-cut diamonds in a classic Art Deco style, finished with two of the Bahrain pearls.
Looking back at the photographs, we can clearly say that the earrings were one of Elizabeth's favorites as she frequently wore them during the early years of her marriage. Later on, in 1982, she loaned it to Princess Diana, who had joined the royal family after her marriage to the then-Prince Charles. Diana also became very fond of the beautiful earrings and wore them on several important occasions. Meanwhile, after Diana's unfortunate death in 1997, the piece of jewelry was loaned out to other royal family members, like the Duchess of Edinburgh.
This is not the first time that Kate has worn jewelry that gained iconic status after being worn by Princess Diana or Queen Elizabeth. Every homage is also part of the Princess of Wales asserting her position as the future of the British monarchy.
