Is Charles to Blame for Not Seeing His Grandkids? Harry’s Plea After Frogmore Eviction Revealed
Prince Harry reportedly made an emotional 7-word plea to King Charles after losing Frogmore Cottage. The Duke is said to have confronted his father on a phone call after the eviction. The remark, allegedly framed around access to his children, has been described as a deeply personal appeal that showed how losing the Windsor property was about more than housing for Harry.
According to The Express, royal author Omid Scobie spilled the alleged exchange in his book, Endgame. As per him, Harry was hurt by his father’s decision. He had wished to make the property his base whenever he returned to Britain. Scobie details in his book that the Prince called Charles directly and unabashedly asked, “Don’t you want to see your grandchildren?” The author said that Charles then responded with a “half-hearted declaration,” insisting that “they would always have ‘somewhere’ to stay.”
Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have had a deep attachment to Frogmore Cottage, located within Windsor Castle. It was a gift from Queen Elizabeth after their 2018 wedding and reportedly one of the late monarch’s favorite homes. The property underwent a $3.3 million renovation before the Sussexes moved in. The couple paid it out of their own pockets. However, their time in the five-bedroom residence was short-lived. In 2020, the couple decided to step back from their royal duties and moved to the United States, which dramatically altered their role in the monarchy.
Their relationship with the royals continued to deteriorate after Harry released his memoir Spare in 2023. Soon after its release, they were evicted from Frogmore Cottage and had to remove their belongings from the property in the Spring of that year. As per the royal author, the decision was more symbolic than practical. It signaled a firmer stance by the Palace toward the Duke and the Duchess as they continued to criticize the institution.
According to Scobie, the decision wasn’t taken by Charles alone. In his book, he mentioned how Princess Anne also played a major role. He wrote that she was “at the forefront of the supporters of the firm approach.” Since their eviction, Harry and Markle, along with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, haven’t flown back to the United Kingdom as a family. They were last seen at Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
However, after Harry's September reunion with Charles, reports suggest that they have made tentative efforts for the children to visit the UK. But, now, with Harry appealing for state-funded security again, it seems it won't be anytime soon.
