Meghan Markle is reportedly off to a rocky start with one of Hollywood's biggest pop stars, and it may have everything to do with her global star power. Sources claim the Duchess of Sussex is quietly caught in a 'diva standoff' with Jennifer Lopez, allegedly fueled by Prince Harry's supposed admiration for the singer. She is also said to feel 'pushed into the background' by Lopez's commanding presence, a dynamic that has reportedly stirred lingering insecurities from her past.
Speaking to OK! magazine, an insider revealed that the Duke of Sussex has reportedly been connecting with Lopez to broaden his celebrity network and spotlight his charitable endeavors. They spilled, "For Meghan, the situation taps into all her worst insecurities. Being placed, even indirectly, alongside someone with Jennifer's level of global recognition and effortless authority is deeply uncomfortable." They also stressed that, despite nothing 'improper' taking place, the Duchess allegedly finds it hard to be constantly compared, as she views Lopez as "the kind of woman who dominates attention without trying."
Another source alleged a different reason, suggesting that Markle was in a competition with Lopez's star power. They dished, "Right now, Jennifer embodies a set of qualities that hit close to the bone – enduring star power, cultural relevance, and a commanding ease in Hollywood that Meghan is particularly sensitive to." They added, "Meghan feels she has been drawn into an unspoken rivalry she never sought out. The comparison exists without her consent, yet she feels unable to escape it, which has become a quiet but persistent source of stress." In December, reports speculated that Harry was allegedly thinking of inviting Lopez for the Invictus Games, to reportedly upstage Prince William's standing with major celebrities for the Earthshot Prize.
Alluding to those reports, an insider explained that the Duke was allegedly aware of how his brother's global profile continues to grow, and that the comparison between him and William weighs heavily. They continued, "Watching William draw in powerful allies and high-profile backers has sharpened his own sense of rivalry, fueling a desire to demonstrate that he can command just as much attention." From Harry's perspective, Hollywood is where he needs to make his mark to grow his charity, and Lopez embodies the highest-caliber endorsement he could secure. However, Markle does not seem to be very keen on this idea.
The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event for the wounded, injured, and sick veterans, started by the Duke of Sussex in 2014, aiming to provide them with a recovery path. "If [Harry] can land her [Lopez] to make an appearance at an Invictus event, it would be phenomenal for the charity and a thrill for him too. He's reaching out to everyone that he's got a connection to; it's not just Lopez that he's trying to lure in," shared a source to the Daily Express.
