After leaving royal life behind, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have always put up a united front, weathering storms and forging a new identity in the US. But now, behind the carefully curated appearances, there are allegedly signs that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at odds about where their future lies. What was once a shared vision of independence is beginning to splinter.

Harry’s recent moves have only fuelled speculation. His private meeting with King Charles and his trip to Ukraine were celebrated as diplomatic successes, but they also suggested something more personal: that he feels a strong pull to the country he walked away from in 2020. What that means for his marriage, however, is less certain. “Harry’s been talking about spending more time in the UK, possibly having a second home base there,” a source tells Star magazine, adding that he has even considered “returning for good.”

Harry hasn’t shied away from that sentiment either. In a candid interview with The Guardian, he admitted, “Yes, I have enjoyed the week. I have always loved the UK, and I always will love the UK. It’s been good to reconnect with the causes I am passionate about. I have been able to spend some time with people whom I have known for so long. It is hard to do it from far away.” He also went on to say that he is 'closer' to bringing his kids back to the UK.

For Markle, that prospect is nothing short of unsettling. Their life in California, a $14.6 million Montecito estate, two young children, and a roster of business ventures, was built precisely to escape the constraints of Palace life. According to the same source, Markle has been left 'shocked' that her husband “would even consider moving back to Britain after everything they’ve been through and how much work they’ve done to rebuild their lives in America.” The divide is stark. “They want different things,” the insider stressed. They also have had differing views about the royal rift

And this rift, observers fear, does little good for their marriage. Harry, now 41, “can be quite stubborn. Meghan isn’t one to back down either,” the source explains. “If this disagreement can’t be resolved, people around them worry it could lead to explosive fights, and possibly even divorce.”

Part of the strain stems from how their lives have evolved since stepping back from royal duties. Once a seamless double act, Harry and Markle now appear to be running on what friends call 'twin tracks.' Harry has doubled down on philanthropy and international advocacy, frequently jetting out of the US to highlight causes close to his heart. Markle, meanwhile, has leaned into Hollywood, returning to her pre-royal roots with a cooking and lifestyle venture. Her new brand, As Ever, backed by Netflix, and her show With Love, Meghan has signaled a full embrace of American celebrity culture.
