Harry & Meghan’s Marriage at an ‘Unfortunate Crossroads’ — and the Duchess’s Ambitions Are to Blame
Royal expert Tom Bower has once again criticized the Sussexes, claiming they are at odds due to their alleged financial issues.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not had an easy start to the year. This month alone, they faced repeated setbacks after royal author Tom Bower made a series of damaging claims in his new book. A scathing Variety report further alleged unprofessionalism, which they believed was the straw that broke the camel's back on the couple's partnership with Netflix. Now, Bower has once again criticized the Sussexes, claiming they are at odds in their marriage owing to their apparent financial issues.
In an interview with Talk TV, TV presenter Mark Dolan asked if Markle's ambitions were 'at odds' with those of Harry. Bower replied, "Yes. Harry is now the fifth in line in succession, and you're a member of the royal family; your ambition isn't clearly material. He had all the fame he needed. He had all the applause he needed." Moreover, he asserted that the Duchess's alleged penchant for fame and recognition may create problems in their marriage. He added, "The problem is she [Markle] can't earn any money anymore and now finds herself at an unfortunate crossroads where she can't raise money by way of work anymore, other than this trip to Australia, and needs to find a new way for the rest of her life."
Bower then offered a solution, suggesting the Duke of Sussex could return to Britain and reunite with his family. When asked by Dolan if Harry was truly satisfied with his life in California, he argued, "I'd say half and half… The lack of any status in Britain and diminishing status in California means, I think on the whole, he's pretty frustrated." Further sharing his thoughts on the Sussexes' current relationship, he continued, "In my view, the marriage is ok. I think that Harry always needed and loved Meghan. It was a marriage made in heaven for him."
Unsurprisingly, Bower has made other such damaging accusations about the Sussexes' relationship. He penned in one of his previous books, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, "Beyond the empathetic smile was a woman who disrupted spontaneity and liked to control every aspect of her life." He alleged that Markle purposely 'outed' her budding romance with Harry by sharing an Instagram photo of her 'secret Halloween date' at a party they had attended in Toronto. He continued, "For her [Markle] own good reasons, she wanted the relationship to be publicized. In media hype, some would call it the 'Greatest Story since the Abdication.'"
To add insult to injury, Bower's new biography, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, serialized by The Times, makes bombshell accusations about the Sussexes' public standing and their alleged poor handling of the Invictus Games. In response, Harry and Markle didn't pull any punches, with their spokesperson describing the scathing biography as "deranged conspiracy and melodrama." "He [Bower] has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met," they pointedly said.
