Meghan Markle Deletes Cryptic ‘Kindness’ Post Amid Latest Row With Royal Biographer
The digital backtrack comes amid a deepening feud between the Sussexes and royal author Tom Bower.
Meghan Markle pulled a swift social media pivot, scrubbing a cryptic Instagram post just hours after she and Prince Harry aimed at royal biographer Tom Bower. The Duchess of Sussex initially returned to social media on March 16 with a post that many watchers saw as a coded message — sharing a video of a ‘Cultivate Kindness’ mug positioned next to a copy of They Bloom Because of You by Jessica Urlichs, a poetry collection that focuses on “the infinite love, growth, and magic of motherhood”. But despite the soulful sounds of Natalie Cole’s This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) playing in the background, Markle quickly chose to remove it from her feed — a choice that didn’t go unnoticed.
Markle’s digital disappearing act is unfolding against the backdrop of a full-blown war with Tom Bower. His new biography, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family — currently being serialized in The Times Magazine — drops a series of bombshells about the Sussexes’ public standing and their handling of the Invictus Games. The California-based couple didn’t pull any punches in their response, with their spokesperson describing Bower’s latest claims as “deranged conspiracy and melodrama,” arguing that the royal author has crossed the line from professional biographer to obsessive fan-fiction writer.
“Those interested in facts will look elsewhere…This is someone who has publicly stated, 'the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,' language that speaks for itself,” the spokesperson told GB News. Talking about Bower, the statement also read, “He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.”
Following the deletion of the ‘Kindness’ post, the Duchess replaced the content with a series of intimate clips of her life at home — shaping a picture of total peace back in Montecito. In one video, she is seen arranging a floral display while Harry’s voice can be heard off-camera praising the work. “It’s beautiful,” the Duke remarks, to which Markle laughs and replies, “Thanks.” Harry adds, “It’s so pretty and pink.” Then the Duchess also shared a rare footage of their daughter, Princess Lilibet, at the family’s chicken coop — the famously named ‘Archie’s Chick Inn.’ The video showed the young Princess sporting the same auburn air as her brother and father, wearing Wellington boots as she reached out to pet a bird.
While Markle tried to paint a different family-coded picture, Tom Bower’s comments about the couple’s time in the Firm have clearly struck a nerve. The royal author alleges that the Duchess was seen as a ‘threat’ to the royal hierarchy — claiming Prince William and Princess Catherine believed she ‘lamented’ the fact that Harry would never be King and she would never be Queen. Perhaps the most cutting is the claim that the Duke lives in fear of his brother’s reign, believing the Prince of Wales will eventually strip their titles and effectively banish them from Britain.
