Harry Leans Into His Prince Persona in Fake Movie Audition — and Almost Kisses Stephen Colbert
Prince Harry may have projected a stoic, composed image before his royal exit, but beneath that exterior was a mischievous streak he was forced to keep in check. Now, as a man no longer bound by Palace restrictions, he's free to appear for TV interviews and let loose his goofy side. That spirit was on full display during his recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on December 3, where he playfully leaned into his royal title. In the segment, he auditioned as a 'fake prince,' almost kissing Colbert to land the mock role.

The Duke of Sussex was auditioning for a fake Hallmark Christmas movie, highlighting the trope that often has an American falling in love with a prince or princess. During the segment, Colbert joked that such movies presented an unrealistic idea of love. He said, "As much as I love these holiday movies, and I do, I think they're a little problematic because they give people the unrealistic expectation that during the holiday season, they're just going to run into some prince at their job or walking down the street." The Duke then asked the host what a real prince had to do to land a role in a Hallmark movie. In response, Colbert cheekily suggested that it was important in show business to have inside connections, saying, "Do you have any connections to any famous TV actresses?"
On Colbert's cheeky advice, Harry quipped, "I might know one," thinking of his wife, Meghan Markle, before adding, "But I'll do anything. I'll record a self-tape, and I'll fly myself to an audition. I'll settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House… all the things you people on TV do!" Later, during the mock audition, the Duke seemed determined to secure the part, even going so far as to almost kiss Colbert as fake snow fell across the stage. Clearly impressed, the host removed his glasses and announced that Harry 'got the role' of the 'official Late Show prince of Christmas.'
Later, riding high on landing his fake role, Harry took a subtle swipe at Donald Trump in a classic tit for tat move. Clearly, Trump's repeated digs at him didn't sit well with the Duke, who lampooned America's 'obsession' with royalty, quipping that the country had 'elected a king,' in reference to the President. The joke appeared to be a reference to the 'No Kings' protest, which opposes Trump's 'authoritarian' policies.
Before The Late Show aired, Colbert teased Harry's appearance by posting a social media video set to a viral Great British Bake Off sound bite. In the clip, Harry sits in the guest chair, mimicking the voice of Great British Bake Off co-host Alison Hammond as he asks Colbert, "If you were treated like a king for a day, what would you want me to do for you?" Their first encounter was during Harry's appearance on The Late Show in January 2023. During that interview, they shared jokes, tequila, and indulged in a heartfelt conversation about the Duke's life.
