Harry and Meghan Plan on a ‘Big Spectacle’ on UK Return — and Security Would Be at the Heart of It
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's UK return comes with their private security, as questions grow over King Charles's peace offering.
Amid Prince Harry's ongoing battle to reinstate his taxpayer-funded security in the UK, he and Meghan Markle are reportedly keen to make a statement. According to a new report, the Sussexes will bring their own security team during next month's London visit for the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. Despite King Charles allegedly offering them a royal residence with dedicated security, the couple has yet to accept the offer, raising fresh questions about the state of their relationship with the royal family.
A Page Six report claims Harry and Markle are preparing for a 'huge spectacle' by relying on their $3M a year US protection team for their London trip. The Duke of Sussex has yet to be offered VIP security in his home country and is in a 'holding pattern' despite going head-to-head with RAVEC in court. A source with knowledge of the situation revealed, "Harry always travels with one of two of his own security team." Their upcoming trip has generated headlines over a potential reunion with Charles, who may finally get to meet his US-based grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after so many years on no-contact. The insider added, "They [Harry and Markle] know it will make the biggest spectacle. They will want photos of them [Archie and Lilibet] being 'royal.'"
In that context, various reports have previously alleged that after the King heard of Harry and Markle's upcoming visit, he extended them an 'olive branch' by offering them a royal residence complete with security in the UK. However, according to The Daily Mail, the Duke and Duchess have yet to respond to the monarch's generous offer, leaving it in limbo. Interestingly, despite fighting for royal security in the UK, Harry had allegedly turned down Charles's offer to stay at Buckingham Palace during his 2024 and 2025 visits, citing security concerns. He reportedly expressed that the Palace's exposed entrances and exits would leave him vulnerable, forcing him to rely on private homes and hotels instead.
If Harry and Markle were to follow through with their security, it would contradict the Duke's previous statements to the BBC, where he indirectly placed the blame on Charles for the unavailability of his taxpayer-funded protection. He said, "There is a lot of control and ability in my father's hands. Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts to do what is necessary." For now, royal watchers can only wait and watch to see if the Sussexes accept Charles's olive branch and if the King ends up meeting his grandchildren after all.
