Fresh Trouble for Princess Eugenie as Charity Controversy Takes Unexpected Turn
Princess Eugenie is facing renewed scrutiny after a watchdog escalated concerns surrounding her anti-slavery charity into a formal case.
Troubles for Princess Eugenie are not over yet, as her anti-slavery charity faces scrutiny. The Charity Commission has recently opened a formal compliance case against the charity, citing regulatory concerns. The watchdog is looking into the governance of The Anti-Slavery Collective, the organization Eugenie co-founded in 2017 alongside one of her closest friends.
Reportedly, the charity had already been facing questions earlier this year, with the Charity Commission explaining that it was “assessing concerns.” The watchdog has now taken the next step by opening a formal compliance case, which means that the scrutiny around the charity has become more serious. The move shows they are now taking a closer look instead of simply monitoring the situation from the sidelines. Investigators are expected to speak directly with the charity’s trustees as part of the process.
It is important to point out that the watchdog has not launched a full statutory inquiry at this stage, and no conclusions have been made about the charity. A spokesperson for the Charity Commission said (via The Telegraph), “We have opened a regulatory compliance case into Anti-Slavery Collective to continue assessing concerns raised with us about charitable spending. As part of this, we will be engaging further with the charity’s trustees.”
The scandal began after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s past connection with Epstein came to light. According to a BBC report published last year, the charity brought in roughly $2.03 million (£1.5 million) but spent only about $270,000 (£200,000). Much of the funding reportedly came from a star-studded London gala in 2023. A source later told the outlet that it may no longer be easy for the organization to stage such a high-profile fundraiser again due to the attention it drew.
Due to the Epstein scandal involving Mountbatten-Windsor, the organization had to scale back some of its activities in 2019. In March 2026, Eugenie quietly stepped down from her role as patron of the separate charity Anti-Slavery International. There was no official explanation for her departure, but it is hard to ignore that the step was taken soon after Epstein's files were released.
Reports also suggest that due to Mountbatten-Windsor’s controversies, there might also be an ongoing rift between the father and daughter. Eugenie apparently cut off all contact with the disgraced Prince after his ties with Epstein were revealed, and his titles were stripped. Moreover, Eugenie also allegedly did not directly convey her pregnancy news to her father. Sarah Ferguson was reportedly the one who passed the update to her ex-husband.
