Meghan Markle Makes a Subtle Swipe at Royal Family — Reveals Her ‘Favorite Title’ After Stepping Down
Meghan Markle revealed her 'favorite title' on her podcast, 'Confessions of A Female Founder', in a conversation with guest Reshma Sujani.
Meghan Markle stepped down as a senior royal in 2020 and has since focused on her independent business ventures. While she continues to use her ‘Sussex’ royal name to promote her many businesses, it turns out it is not the one she holds dearest. On the second episode of her podcast, Confessions of A Female Founder, Markle revealed that being a mom was her ‘favorite title’ of all.
Markle invited Girls Who Code founder, Reshma Sujani, for the latest episode of her podcast. As reported by The Mirror, she told Sujani, “Now you have the title of mom. Just like me. Favorite title. Love it. Oh my gosh. I love being a mom so much. It’s my favorite thing.” The subtle swipe about her ‘favorite title’ comes after Markle revealed in March that she now goes by ‘Meghan Sussex’. She infamously corrected Mindy Kaling on her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, “It's so funny that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know, I'm Sussex now.”
More recently, the remark also follows Markle's reassertion of a royal title she was banned from using, which landed her in hot water. After the Sussexes stepped down as senior royals, they agreed not to use the ‘His/Her Royal Highness’ (HRH) titles. Despite this, Markle reposted a message from the vice president of Ukraine addressing her as ‘Your Royal Highness.’ A friend of King Charles told the Daily Beast, “The deal with the HRH was a way to stop them cashing in while letting them walk away with pride and dignity and trust.” The source added, “I'm sure the King's first reaction will be dismay, but he simply doesn't allow himself to get angry about things like this anymore.”
The title swipe isn't the only time Markle took a dig at the royal family. She also threw shade on the debut episode of her Netflix series. On her show, With Love, Meghan, she said of Harry, “He has just been in my life for the before, during, and after, shall we say…” According to Geo News, the cryptic words were a reference to her struggles in the royal fold and the eventual move to the US without directly mentioning it.
Coming back to her podcast, Markle and Sujani opened up about balancing life as a parent and juggling a business. Markle explained how one of her kids had respiratory syncytial virus while the other had influenza A. Speaking of her struggle as a working mother, she added, “With that comes the woman who is juggling it all and doing it all from home, being confident enough, to tell the truth about what’s going on, because you can’t give grace to someone in the same way if you just have no sense of it…”
