5 Worrying Photos of King Charles as He Lands in the Bahamas for Grueling Tour

King Charles is taking on one of his longest overseas tours since his cancer diagnosis: a packed nine-day trip to the Caribbean. The 77-year-old monarch landed in the Bahamas on October 27 and is set to visit Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda before wrapping up the trip on November 4. While Charles has continued his royal duties alongside his treatment, his latest appearance has drawn attention, with some of the photos prompting questions about how he is holding up amid such a demanding schedule.

Before even landing in the Bahamas, Charles appeared deep in concentration as he went through a thick stack of papers aboard his flight. With his head lowered and his expression rather serious, the King looked a little weary ahead of the busy Caribbean tour awaiting him. The picture offers a glimpse of the work that comes with the trip before his public engagements have even begun.

Charles was photographed chatting with Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis at the Future Bahamas Youth Rally and Exhibition in Nassau. In the close-up, the monarch's fingers looked swollen and red around the knuckles. Charles has previously joked about his “sausage fingers,” even mentioning them in a letter after Prince William's birth in 1982. With the 77-year-old King facing a packed schedule across the Caribbean, the photograph has once again drawn attention to a feature that has worried royal watchers for years.

At the youth rally, Charles delivered a speech in which he acknowledged the “great suffering and injustices of the past” and spoke about building a better future. However, the monarch’s face appeared rather drawn under the lights; his frail appearance was particularly noticeable. With several days of engagements still ahead on his Caribbean tour, his appearance is likely to draw closer attention as the trip continues due to his ongoing health concerns.

There was a smile on Charles's face as he browsed the displays at Clifford Park, but the close-up told a slightly different story. His skin looked weathered, and the lines across his face were particularly prominent, giving him a rather haggard appearance.
