4 Stunning Tiaras the Royal Family Pulled Out For the Oman State Banquet
A Glitzy Affair
King Charles and Queen Camilla recently hosted a grand state banquet at Windsor Castle in honor of the Sultan of Oman, bringing together members of the Royal Family for an evening of pomp and pageantry. The royal women particularly drew attention with their stunning outfits and historic jewelry. Four royal ladies chose to wear beautiful tiaras, each with its own story and special connection to the family. From Princess Kate's much-loved headpiece to Queen Camilla's iconic diamonds, these royal jewels added an extra touch of sparkle to the special evening.
Kate's Favorite!
The Princess of Wales wore the Lover's Knot tiara, one of her most recognizable royal jewels. The piece was made by Garrard in 1914 for Queen Mary, who took inspiration from a tiara once owned by her grandmother. It was later passed down to Queen Elizabeth II, who reportedly lent it to Princess Diana in 1981. It is now Kate's go-to piece for important royal occasions.
Camilla's Diamonds
Camilla chose the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara for the state banquet. The historic piece was commissioned by a fundraising committee as a wedding gift for the then-future Queen Mary in 1893. Made by Garrard, it was designed to be worn in different ways, including as a necklace or a tiara. Queen Mary later had its original pearls replaced with diamonds and made further changes to its design. In 1947, she gave it to her granddaughter, Elizabeth, as a wedding present. Camilla's choice to wear it at the banquet was also a special way to pay an ode to the late Queen, as the piece is said to be one of Elizabeth's treasured belongings.
Anne's Family Heirloom
Next, Princess Anne, stunned, wearing the Princess Andrew Meander tiara, also known as the Greek Key Tiara. The diamond headpiece has a distinctive Greek key pattern, honeysuckle details, and a large brilliant-cut diamond at its centre. It originally belonged to Anne's paternal grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, who received it as a wedding present when she married Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark. The tiara later passed to the late Queen, who eventually gave it to her only daughter. This is also the same tiara that Anne's daughter, Zara Tindall, wore for her wedding to Mike Tindall in 2011.
The Gloucester Special
The Duchess of Gloucester completed the royal line-up with the Gloucester Honeysuckle tiara, a treasured heirloom with a history dating back to Queen Mary. The tiara was commissioned after her husband, King George V, became king in 1910, and incorporated diamonds from other pieces of royal jewelry. It was later passed to Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, and his wife, Alice, following their marriage in 1935. The tiara also features a pink topaz centrepiece and has also been associated with the Cullinan V diamond, adding to its remarkable history.
