As per the Mirror, during a conversation with a 19-year-old royal fan named Rachel Anvil, Kate admitted that she wasn’t comfortable in the coat and admitted that she "really shouldn't have worn it.” Talking to Metro UK, Anvil’s mother shared, “Kate was talking to my daughter about clothes and how she was feeling too hot.”

When Prince William proposed to Kate in 2010, she wanted a few quiet weeks in a cozy bubble of privacy before sharing the news with the world. Just a few days later, her grandfather, Peter Middleton, passed away before the royal news was officially released. Katie Nicholl, in her book, Kate: The Future Queen, shared, "Kate was deeply saddened not to have had the chance to tell her grandfather that she was engaged to William. She knew he would have been delighted for her."
