Wimbledon Champ Reveals Prince George and Prince Charlotte's Secret Hobby
Wimbledon champion opened up about his conversation with the royal family during the press interviews on Sunday.
On Sunday, Jannik Sinner etched his name in history after winning Wimbledon for the second consecutive time. He was handed the trophy by Kate Middleton, who is the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. The Italian tennis star also interacted with her husband, Prince William, and her kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, after the thrilling victory. But it was not until the press conference later on that Sinner revealed a small detail about their heartwarming conversation.
A reporter asked Sinner if there was any chance he would give Charlotte a tennis lesson, as she is an avid fan of the sport. He said via ASAP Sports, “I asked the kids if they still play. They are very happy; yes, they do. We had a very, very small conversation. But I love it. That they also take time to talk with me, it's something really, really nice.” George and Charlotte frequently attend Wimbledon matches with their mother, and were present when Sinner won the tournament last time.
The reporter also mentioned that Sinner wasn't sure what to say last year when speaking with the royal family, and wondered whether it would be easier this time around. The tennis star instantly shook his head, even before the question finished, and smiled before answering, “It was not easier. So much respect, so I never know where the line is. No, I think you can really see that they love the sport. This is exactly how we feel as players on court when we see them watching tennis. Staying there for four hours under the sun with the heat, it's really nice.” Watch the video here!
One of the highlights of Wimbledon is the Royal Box, which seats some of the biggest names in sports, entertainment, business, and fashion, as well as members of the royal family. Players get to see some of their favorite stars and celebrities cheering for them as they play in one of the most iconic sporting events in the world. Sinner reflected on that, saying, “Having the whole Royal Box there, as well, the whole people staying for a match like this for four-ish hours, it's amazing. That's also the reason why we love to play tennis.”
Sinner, however, wasn’t the only one who addressed George and Charlotte’s love for tennis. British tennis sensation and this year’s semi-finalist, Arthur Fery, also offered to play a round with the kids when he spoke to them at Wimbledon on Sunday. “I know the whole family are all tennis fans, so I told her if her kids ever wanted to hit, I'm free,” he told the BBC.
Wales’ kids’ love of sports has certainly come from their parents, who themselves are quite sporty. Middleton and William have tried their hands at various sports over the years and seem to encourage their children to take part in sporting activities as well.
