William Reportedly Had a Request for Charles Ahead of His US Visit — but Camilla Was Not Having It
Queen Camilla 'overruled' Prince William's plea, believing that stepping back from duty contradicted the monarchy's sense of responsibility.
Just days before King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in the US for their state visit, tensions reportedly flared within the House of Windsor. According to sources, Prince William was strongly against his father proceeding with the trip amid ongoing health concerns linked to his cancer diagnosis. Camilla, however, was said to have firmly rejected William's plea, allegedly believing that stepping back from duty and showing vulnerability contradicted the monarchy's sense of responsibility and ethics.
Speaking to The Mirror, royal commentator Ian Pelham Turner claimed that the Prince of Wales was seriously concerned about the King's grueling four-day schedule in the US. While William reportedly urged his father to reduce his workload or cancel the trip, the Queen was furious at his request. Pelham Turner shared, "King Charles and Queen Camilla have caused a row within the royal family, after accepting a visit to America as part of the 250th centenary celebrations." He added, "Sources close to the royal family have allegedly stated that Prince William was against the couple going to the celebrations as he felt that his father's health was still not the best, but apparently, he was overruled by Queen Camilla."
Moreover, the royal commentator highlighted William's integral role in making major monarchial decisions as he prepares for his future on the throne. Meanwhile, Camilla had good reason to reject his request, as experts believe that the state visit is a crucial diplomatic effort to strengthen the US and the UK's ties during America's 250th anniversary celebrations. Pauline Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever, stressed, "The visit has the potential to smooth out the relationship between Trump and the UK, which has had a rough ride in recent times. I think that the prestige associated with the King visiting him will possibly soften Trump's hardening attitude."
As for William's alleged concern for his father, he is said to have made similar requests in the past, only to be turned down by the King. As reported by the Daily Mail, when he had asked Charles if he could cut down his royal engagements in 2024, the King reportedly remarked, "Think again." To add insult to injury, the outlet reported 'underlying tension' between them due to Charles and William's alleged 'fiery tempers,' noting that working for the monarch was like 'treading on eggshells,' while the Prince had mood swings that were 'difficult to handle.'
On the other hand, royal experts have often praised Charles's untiring work ethic and commitment to the Crown despite battling the deadly illness. Expert Christopher Anderson told Fox News, "Now that the King has been reminded of his mortality — and we still have no firm idea how serious his condition really is — it's certain that he doesn't want to waste a single minute....Charles III is determined to make his mark on history...King Charles wants to be seen doing the job he was born to do."
