Royal Experts Claim Harry and Meghan Are 'Going Out Of Their Way to Stay Out of Trouble'
Royal commentators continue to scrutinize Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with many accusing them of causing problems. However, recent developments suggest that the Sussexes are actively avoiding controversy. Despite the shift, they find themselves in a sea of scandals, with people always having something negative to say, even if it is unsubstantiated. That dynamic resurfaced as royal commentators Kinsey Schofield and Rupert Bell discussed Markle’s Harper’s Bazaar interview. It prompted debate on whether the criticism they face aligns with their current behaviour.
Bell stated, “Harry and Meghan are creating huge problems for the Royal Family.” However, Pauline Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever and Professor at Royal Holloway, argued against this. As per the Express, she revealed, “It seems to me that Harry and Meghan are trying to not cause anymore controversies as far as their royal relatives are concerned. I feel they have been on their best behavior recently.” Her assessment arrives at the time when the public conversation around the Sussexes is shifting.
According to Bell, the Royal family has had enough on their plate trying to stay relevant. But many watching the situation unfold, including Maclaran, say that the Sussexes keep the monarchy relevant, with many paying attention to them. Their visibility is the driving force behind discussion across social and traditional media despite their conscious efforts to step back from contentious narratives. Maclaran claimed, “Harry and Meghan are going out of their way to stay out of trouble,” and “even so, people are coming for them and in some cases without warrant.”
The ongoing scrutiny has naturally led to questions regarding why there is so much interest in the formal royal couple and, by extension, the Royal family as a whole. Maclaran insisted, “It’s the gossip appeal that’s at the heart of this — people bonding with each other as they speculate and discuss these relationships. And while the official communication channels for the royals may not like this, it’s the beating heart of public engagement.”
Adding to the renewed buzz around the Sussexes is a speculation about a potential royal return. This topic is gaining traction as dynamics within the Royal family are shifting. Earlier this year, Harry told the BBC, he “would love a reconciliation” with the royal family. During the emotional interview, he stated being “devastated” at losing his security-based legal challenge in the UK. The prince said his father, King Charles, “won’t speak to me because of this security stuff”, but that he didn’t want to fight anymore and “did not know how much longer his father had” amidst his cancer battle.
Things seem to be changing for the better. In September 2025, Harry met his father for tea for the first time in 19 months. While the family feud is far from resolved, it seems like the ice is starting to thaw. Now it seems like King Charles may meet his grandkids, Archie and Lilibet, soon. According to The Sun, a full review of the Sussex family’s security needs is underway. Their best behavior could be the reason for their attempts to mend their broken bond with the royals, marking a potentially meaningful step towards reconciliation.
