Real Reason Why William and Kate’s Christmas ‘Thank You’ Cards Arrived 3 Months Late
The Royal Couple surprised fans by replying to their Christmas wishes with 'thank-you' cards.
For several years, Royal Family members, including King Charles and Prince William, have been sending Christmas cards to their friends, family, staff members, world leaders, and even some royal fans. It often features warm family photographs along with heartfelt messages. These cards do not just spread festive greetings but also offer a rare, intimate glimpse into royal family life. However, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Christmas card last year was delayed, with many claiming they received it nearly three months late.
In a thoughtful gesture, the royal couple reportedly chose to surprise their fans by replying to their warm Christmas wishes with 'thank-you' Christmas cards. But, as reported by HELLO Magazine, many social media users have since revealed that the cards are only now beginning to arrive. Recently, broadcaster Simon Glazelle shared a post regarding the Christmas card on his Instagram page, prompting other users to share their stories. In his post, Simon said, "I did not realize that the lead time on a response from the Prince and Princess of Wales, when you send them a Christmas card, is about three months."
He questioned, "Is it me or did they get lost in the post, or did maybe someone just put them in the out tray and just completely forgot to [put] them in the post box in Kensington Palace?" Since the card included a New Year’s message from the entire Wales family, the broadcaster rightly pointed out that it would have made far more sense for it to be delivered well before April. As soon as the video went viral, fans filled the comment section, with a majority of them defending the Royal couple. One Instagram user, @ruuanni, stated, "I received mine 2 weeks ago, and I live in Finland. But it was a lovely surprise anyway."
Similarly, another person, who goes by the username @kristilynn522, commented, "I think they get thousands of cards from all over the world, and it takes a long time for the office to respond to all of them. Which is a very kind gesture that they take the time to actually send you something in return." @marinali8700 also shared her excitement, stating, "We got it too here in Sweden and jumped from excitement! I don't care how late it was; it is an honor. And yes, I realize it's not personal, nor written by them. Still, I will cherish it."
The photo printed on the 'thank-you' Christmas card was reportedly taken in Norfolk, and it features William, Kate, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. On the other hand, Charles and Camilla also shared their Christmas card on their official Instagram handle in December last year, featuring the couple warmly smiling in a garden, as reported by Cosmopolitan. The caption of the post revealed that the photo was taken in the grounds of Villa Wolkonsky in Rome when the King and the Queen went for a state visit to the Republic of Italy in April 2025.
