Princess Lilibet’s Favorite Disney Princesses Revealed ― and Meghan Might Not Approve
While Meghan Markle was visibly delighted to see her children having the time of their lives, Lilibet's choice of favorite princesses might have sparked a playful debate at home.
While the rest of the royals were occupied with Garden Parties and charitable receptions, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoyed a more whimsical celebration across the Atlantic. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry marked Mother's Day this year with a family trip to Disneyland, accompanied by Prince Archie, Princess Lilibet, and Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland. In a rare glimpse into their private life, the Duchess of Sussex shared a carousel of photos from the outing with her followers on Instagram, featuring the family sporting Mickey-ear hats and interacting with Disney characters. The cutest highlight, however, was the images of Lilibet hugging Disney princesses.
Dressed in a chic floral dress, a glittery pink cap, and an adorable bow, the young Princess appeared to be in her element. The Duchess’s Instagram carousel captured two particularly poignant moments: Lilibet tightly hugging Cinderella and later engaged in a serious chat with Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. While Markle was visibly delighted to see her children having the time of their lives, the choice of favorite princesses might have sparked a playful debate at home. The Duchess was famously noted for her own soft spot for Ariel from The Little Mermaid, possibly because she sees a lot of resemblance between the character’s life and her own.
This uncanny similarity was something Markle first addressed during her landmark 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. As reported by PEOPLE, she said, “I was sitting in Nottingham cottage and The Little Mermaid came on...And who as an adult really watches The Little Mermaid but it came on and I was like, 'Well I'm here all the time I might as well watch this,' and I went, 'Oh my God she falls in love with the prince and because of that she loses her voice’.”
With reference to The Little Mermaid, Markle was obviously referring to her time in the royal family, where she struggled to fit in. She told Winfrey that she felt “silenced” while in the UK. However, the Duchess did have her happy ending as she highlighted, “But in the end she gets her voice back.” This statement served as a powerful post-script to the couple’s 2020 departure from the monarchy. Since settling in Montecito, California, the Sussexes have cultivated a life centered on that very freedom.
Interestingly, during that sensational interview, Markle was pregnant with Lilibet; in fact, it was on that global stage that the couple first announced they were expecting a daughter. While it looks like Lilibet has grown out of her Ariel phase, there was a time when the little princess adored the little mermaid. She had celebrated her fourth birthday with a stunning, two-tiered Little Mermaid-themed cake, with the intricate design also featuring Ariel and her loyal companion Sebastian the crab.
