Princess Diana is remembered for her heart of gold and unwavering service, as she always grabbed headlines for her charitable work. Twenty-eight years after her passing, she remains firmly in the minds of the public for her compassion and grace. Recently, her spotless legacy was thrust into question when newly released emails from the late Jeffrey Epstein were made public by the House Oversight Committee. In one of the excerpts, a journalist detailed an alleged 2015 encounter, claiming that Epstein had his arms around Diana.

The email, which was sent to the disgraced financier, was a draft from controversial journalist Michael Wolff on October 8, 2016. According to HuffPost, Wolff's email consisted of a lengthy rough draft of what appeared to be a profile on Epstein that never made it to the shelves. The bio, said to be above 8000 words, was sent to Epstein for fact-checking to be published in the New York magazine. The email partly read, "In 1994, just at the moment when Prince Charles is on television acknowledging his love for Camilla Parker Bowles, Jeffrey Epstein is sitting with his arm around Princess Diana at a dinner at the Serpentine Gallery in London," noting that the late Princess was "wearing her 'revenge' dress that evening."

In another email from 2015, Wolff simply mentioned that Diana was sitting next to Epstein and didn't mention his arm placement. Despite the journalist's efforts to connect, the disgraced financier did not reply to his correspondence. The controversial journalist had also alleged that both Epstein and Donald Trump were eager to date Diana after her divorce from then-Prince Charles. In an August episode of The Daily Beast's Inside Trump's Head podcast, he revealed, "Of who would be the one, the first one to sleep with Princess Diana? ... They [Epstein and Trump] just understood, what could you get from these people? Both Trump and Epstein. What can you get from somebody, is the question you would always ask about anybody."

In a similar vein, Epstein's ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, also mentioned his relationship with Diana in an interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. In the recorded conversation, she explained how Epstein once lived in London, where he "met and knew some truly fancy people." According to her, he was set to meet up with the late Princess at an event in London. She said, "I don't know if he sat with Diana or he met with Diana, and he'd already met her…I don't know if she was being set up as a date for him, maybe because she… I don't want to speak badly of Diana, but… I'm not going to do that."

While both Maxwell and Wolff claim that Epstein had met Diana, there remains no photographic evidence to support their allegations, despite Maxwell alleging otherwise. Her account has drawn particular scrutiny, as she reportedly recalled the supposed encounter happening in the early 2000s, several years after Diana died in a car crash on August 31, 1997.
