Prince Harry has always gone above and beyond to honor and cherish the memory of his mother, Princess Diana. He has actively discussed the enduring grief of losing her, along with the deep emotional trauma it left him with as a child. Yet, the Duke of Sussex also loves to fondly reflect on the beautiful times they shared, especially when she is brought up during his public engagements. This is exactly what happened when the Duke attended Scotty’s Summer Festival at Maxstoke Castle in Warwickshire, which marked his final public outing during his recent trip to the U.K.

Harry shared how he still works hard to keep his mother’s memory alive for Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, through small, everyday moments. In fact, the Duke opened up about one of these sweet and special traditions. According to People, while talking to 16-year-old Sebastian—who asked if he does anything special to celebrate Princess Diana’s birthday—Harry exclaimed with a warm smile, “Yes, we do lemon drizzle cake!” He further showed just how much this means to him, adding, “I think traditions are really, really important, especially when they’re sweet.”

He explained how they bake the cake together each year, marking both Princess Diana’s birthday on July 1 and the anniversary of her passing on August 31. In fact, her fondness for lemon cake is a major reason why the flavor remains a favorite in the Sussex household. This is precisely why Harry and Meghan chose a beautiful lemon elderflower cake for their wedding back in 2018 and why they enjoyed a similar one for their recent anniversary, celebrating eight years together.

At the end of the day, it is quite clear that for Harry, keeping Princess Diana’s memory alive isn’t just about public tributes or heartfelt speeches. Instead, it is found in the sweet, simple traditions that weave her presence into his family's everyday life. From baking a favorite cake to sharing stories about the grandmother his children never got to meet—and even his recent family visit to her ancestral home of Althorp, where the late Princess was laid to rest in 1997—it is evident that Harry takes this responsibility to heart. His latest revelation proves that sometimes the most lasting ways to honor a loved one are through these quiet, heartfelt rituals.
