Prince Harry Reveals the Golden Rule He Learned From Mom Diana That He Follows With Archie & Lilibet
Harry recently appeared on a podcast and opened up about the parenting lesson he still carries from Princess Diana.
While Prince Harry's recent U.K. visit gave royal fans the long-awaited reunion with his father, King Charles, it also told us how he is still following his mother's golden rule. The Duke of Sussex recently appeared on the latest episode of rugby star Joe Marler's podcast, where he opened up about the parenting lesson he still carries from Princess Diana. His heartfelt confession made it clear how he still looks to his mother for parenting when raising his own children.
Harry has often spoken about the close bond he shared with his late mother. On the podcast, he shared that throughout his life, he remembered her as an affectionate and loving mother who wasn't afraid to show emotion. One of the memories that has stayed with him is the way she would embrace him and his older brother, Prince William. Harry has previously recalled that Diana would hug them "as tight as possible," a practice he follows with his own kids.
Harry also shared how he responds when life feels especially difficult. “If a day is hard, one thing I will do is always squeeze my kids that extra, extra tight.” While parenting styles can differ from one family to another, Harry's words suggested that one of the greatest lessons he learned from his mother was the importance of making children feel loved, safe, and reassured through simple acts of affection.
In the same podcast, Marler spoke to the Duke about coping with trauma. In response, Harry shared, “Yes, I think you’re absolutely right. And also, kids remind you not to take yourself too seriously as well." He continued, “The resilience of kids is amazing, and the way that they view life is so incredibly refreshing." Harry seems to be a hands-on father to his kids: Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Previously, during his visit to the Scotty’s Summer Festival at Maxstoke Castle on July 11, when a 9-year-old girl, Poppy, asked him, “What makes you laugh when you’ve had a difficult day?” the Prince had replied, “That got me right there. You know what, sometimes it’s just a difficult day. It’s not always possible to laugh. But my dog makes me laugh, and my children make me laugh. And if I need to laugh, I’ll probably put something really funny on the television.”
Whether it is rebuilding family relationships or raising his own children, Harry's latest comments showed that one lesson from Diana has never left him: sometimes the simplest hug can say everything.
