Meghan Markle Recreates Princess Diana's Iconic Beach Look 33 Years Later in Rare Vacation Photos
Meghan Markle's Portugal holiday photos are winning hearts, with her stylish beachwear sparking comparisons with Princess Diana.
Meghan Markle delighted royal fans after sharing never-before-seen photos of Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, from their recent Portugal holiday in July. In one sun-soaked snap, the Duchess of Sussex is seen standing in a backless black high-cut swimsuit as her husband and children ran towards the beach. The elegant one-piece instantly drew comparisons to one of Princess Diana's iconic summer looks, when she wore a strikingly similar swimsuit during her 1993 holiday on the Caribbean island of Nevis.
Markle shared multiple fun pictures of the family's Portugal getaway on Instagram, captioning the post, "Summer Holidays." The carousel opens with a black-and-white photo of Markle and Harry smiling together, followed by the beach snap of Harry, Archie, and Lilibet as Markle watched on in a swimsuit, paired with sneakers, sunglasses, and a cap.
The backless black swimsuit drew comparisons to Diana's beach looks from her vacation on the island of Nevis. Just months after announcing her separation from then-Prince Charles, she travelled with Princes William and Harry for a private family break away. During the holiday, she was photographed bodyboarding through the waves, swimming in the sea, and strolling along the beach. The images captured a more relaxed, carefree side of the late Princess, making the Nevis getaway one of her most memorable royal holidays of the 1990s. Diana had stayed at the Montpelier Plantation resort, where she spent quality time with her children.
As for Markle's dreamy vacation, among the most talked-about images was a photo of Harry with Archie and Lilibet at Althorp, carrying flowers during a visit to Diana's grave. While the burial site is not open to the public, visitors to Althorp can pay their respects at a memorial located beside the lake. As reported by the Daily Mail, Harry, Markle, Archie and Lilibet were given private access to the estate, as Diana's immediate relatives. A subsequent photo showed the Duchess relaxing on a sun lounger with Earl Spencer and his wife, Dr Cat Jarman, in the background while petting the family's rescue beagle, Mamma Mia.
