Princess Beatrice Inherits Prince Philip’s Former Role as Her Royal Future Grows Bleak
Princess Beatrice's royal future seems bleak, despite having served the Firm loyally for years. While she holds an HRH title and attends most royal family events, the Princess is not assigned royal duties. As the speculation about her future in the monarchy under Prince William's reign grows, given his alleged plans to have a toned-down monarchy as King, Beatrice recently inherited her late grandfather, Prince Philip’s, former role as the patron of the Chartered College of Teaching.
Beatrice is seemingly carrying forward her grandfather’s legacy by supporting the professional body for teachers. According to GB News, the Chartered College of Teaching recently released a statement announcing the Princess as their patron, four years after Philip's death. The statement read, “HRH Princess Beatrice has shown her support for education and young people through her work as Ambassador and Patron of many organizations, and particularly as Trustee and Founder of Big Change.” They added, “The late Duke of Edinburgh was our Patron until his death in 2021 and was an active supporter of the Chartered College of Teaching, and of the teaching profession. Royal patronage gives a clear indication of the fundamental role teachers play in society and for children and young people. Together with HRH Princess Beatrice, we look forward to championing the teaching profession with renewed purpose and visibility.”
Meanwhile, the Princess, elated by the honor, shared, “To me, the power that teachers have on shaping lives and transforming futures makes it one of the most commendable and highly regarded professions.” She stressed that she is a “passionate believer in the vital role that teachers play every day” and is aware of the impact of ‘great teaching’ on a child. The Princess further remarked, “It’s a real honor to take up the role as Patron of the Chartered College of Teaching, a role previously held by my grandfather.”
Despite the new role, Beatrice and her younger sister, Princess Eugenie’s, future in the monarchy, when William becomes the King, does not look promising. It has been previously reported that William will strip Prince Harry and his family of their HRH titles when he ascends to the throne. If he takes such a move, Beatrice and Eugenie’s titles will also likely be removed, as the honor would be reserved only for working royals.
The York sisters, in the past, made regular appearances on Buckingham Palace balcony during royal events. However, following their father, Prince Andrew, stepping down as working royal, the two have also been somewhat relegated to the shadows. Nevertheless, royal experts believe William’s fondness for his cousin sisters will lead him to bestow them with royal duties when King. According to Hello! magazine, expert Ingrid Seward, said, “Having slimmed down the monarchy, I don’t think he [Charles] will change his mind, so I think he will leave it to William to bring them into the fold.”
