Princess Anne's love of horses has never really stayed in one generation. This week, that legacy was on full display as she celebrated 50 years of a farm-based charity close to her heart — the same weekend her granddaughter, 12-year-old Mia Tindall, was competing on horseback at Blenheim.
Anne recently marked her attendance at the 50th anniversary of Farms for City Children, a charity founded by author Sir Michael Morpurgo and his wife, Lady Clare Morpurgo. The organization gives children and young people the chance to experience life on a working farm, hosting them for a week at a time to explore what daily farm life actually looks like. Given the charity's connection to horses, the celebration felt like a natural fit for Anne.
For its major 50-year milestone, Anne joined the celebrations and spent time meeting some of the children and teachers taking part in the program. The visit also highlighted why the organization feels particularly suited to Anne. Images from the event were shared on the official Royal Family Instagram account, giving royal fans a glimpse of the Princess Royal engaging in farm-based activities.
The Princess has been a lifelong equestrian and has maintained a strong connection to horses and rural life throughout her public career. Her passion for horses has also been passed down through her family. Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a successful competitive equestrian. Zara famously represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics, where she won a silver medal as part of the eventing team.
Interestingly, even her 12-year-old daughter, Mia Tindall, was recently photographed competing at the 2026 Blenheim International Horse Trials. She rode her horse Bunny Two Tails in a showjumping competition, with the young royal reportedly enjoying a special family connection to the event. Seems like the love for animals, specifically horses, runs in the family from one generation to the next.
For Anne, however, the latest engagement was about much more than horses. By celebrating five decades of Farms for City Children, she helped shine a spotlight on a charity that gives young people the chance to learn, explore, and experience life far from the city.
