Prince William Reveals His Favorite Pastime Away From the Spotlight — And Honestly, We Can Relate

Prince William and Kate Middleton certainly have their hands full with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Over the years, they have mastered balancing their royal duties while ensuring their children enjoy a private life away from the spotlight. But caring for three young kids can be exhausting, even for a royal. In a conversation with actor Eugene Levy, the Prince of Wales recently revealed just how much he cherishes sleep outside of work, especially as a busy father.

William appeared on Levy’s show, The Reluctant Traveler, which airs on October 3 on Apple TV. The episode sees him take Levy on a tour of Windsor Castle, while explaining its rich history. The Waleses' beloved dog, Orla, also joined the men for the walk. Levy is seen asking William what he enjoyed doing the most when he wasn’t working and away from the spotlight. The Prince instantly answered: "Sleep. When you have three small children, sleep is an important part of my life."

The Prince of Wales has been quite vocal about his love for sleep in the past. During a two-day conservation trip to Namibia in 2018, he joked that Middleton was 'immensely jealous' that she was not able to join him on the trip. He explained, "Particularly as I’m looking forward to a few good, uninterrupted sleeps this week, away from my wonderful children." Similarly, in 2013, when the Prince and Princess were new parents to their eldest, George, William spoke about passing on his ‘legacy’ to his first born, telling CNN correspondent Max Foster, "At the moment, the only legacy I want to pass on to him is to sleep more and maybe not have to change his nappy so many times."

Reflecting on William and Middleton’s hands-on parenting, royal author Robert Jobson once told Harper's Bazaar, "They pretty much lavish equal attention on all three, while at the same time nurturing their distinct and different personalities." Meanwhile, royal historian Marlene Koenig mused, "I think they’re just much more hands-on parents who make sure that all of their children know they’re loved and that they have a place in the family." She continued, "Even though they’re raising one to be a king, [they’re] making sure that all of the children know they have a place and that they have support and that they’re loved."
During his appearance on Levy’s show, William was also candid about how 2024 was his most difficult year because of King Charles's and Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. He revealed, "I'd say 2024 was the hardest year I've ever had. You know, life is sent to test us as well, and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are." He also shared that coming to Windsor Castle reminded him terribly of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
