Prince William Channels Queen Elizabeth’s Iconic Wit After Spotting a Man's Bold Shirt Choice

Prince William's latest light-hearted exchange carried a familiar royal energy that reminded many of Queen Elizabeth.

Prince William has time and again proved that his sense of humor is royally elite. His quick, witty replies often catch us off guard, and the room suddenly erupts into laughter. A similar incident happened during his visit to St. Mary's in the Isles of Scilly when he saw a man wearing a floral shirt. His ever-so-ready jokes surely remind us that he is, in fact, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth.

Working his way through the hall to greet the line of welcoming guests, one attendee immediately caught William’s eye, and for all the right reasons. Down the line stood a man in a bold floral shirt that was impossible to miss, and William clearly was not about to let the moment pass unnoticed. Keeping things light, the Prince paused and joked, “That’s a bold statement this morning, Ray.”

Still amused by the eye-catching outfit, he added, “That’s normal. Certainly brightens up the fog here this morning.” When someone nearby chimed in with, “You kind of lift it,” William was quick with another playful reply: “Exactly, very impressive.” Taking the comment entirely in stride, the man laughed it off, and the exchange turned into one of those unexpectedly fun royal moments that felt more like friendly banter than an official engagementWatch the video here!

William’s floral shirt joke may have been a small moment, but it had the same easy humor the late Queen was loved for. She had a knack for slipping in a joke when nobody saw it coming, often turning ordinary conversations into stories people remembered for years. One of her funniest encounters happened during a walk near Balmoral with her protection officer when a group of American tourists struck up a conversation with her without realizing who she was. After chatting for a bit, they asked whether she had ever met the Queen. Elizabeth, clearly enjoying the moment, simply said, “No,” then pointed to her officer and added, “But he has.”

That playful side was something William knew well himself. Speaking in the Our Queen at Ninety documentary back in 2016, he shared a funny memory from his first diplomatic reception. “You have to be careful what you say and who you say it to,” he said, before revealing he accidentally mixed up two countries that did not exactly see eye to eye. Calling the moment “quite embarrassing,” the future King recalled that his grandmother was unfazed by the slip-up. Instead, she laughed it off and found the whole thing funny. “Luckily, there wasn't any [fallout], but it was ok,” he added.
