Prince William and Princess Kate’s Eye-Watering Private School Bill for George, Charlotte and Louis
Every parent wants the best for their kids and spares no expense when it comes to investing in their future, and Kate and William are no different.
Every parent wants the best for their kids and spares no expense when it comes to investing in their future, and the Prince and Princess of Wales are no exception—though their tuition bills are on a completely different level. With Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis enrolled in elite private schools from day one, the family's academic expenses are sky-high. As Prince George prepares to take his next academic step at Eton College in September 2026, Prince William and Princess Kate face a total educational bill that could ultimately cross the $1 million mark. So, how much are the royal couple really spending on their kids' education annually?
With all that being said, it is important to note that quality education remains a priority for parents regardless of their background or status. According to Grace Moody-Stuart, Consultancy Director at The Good Schools Guide, one can't "put a price on education." She continued, "Every parent wants to educate their child as best they possibly can within the means that they've got, so I defy you to find any parent who just goes, 'Oh no, education doesn't matter.'" In a conversation with HELLO!, she elaborated that "plenty of parents are making huge sacrifices to do exactly what they're (Kate and William) doing. I'm sure they're going to be making some sacrifices in doing it, too."
Acknowledging every parent's effort, it is also important to note how William and Kate have chosen private education for their children from the very beginning. George first attended Westacre Montessori School in 2016, where fees were about $44 per day, before moving to Thomas's Battersea in London in 2017. At the time, annual tuition was roughly $25,000 to $30,000. Princess Charlotte later joined him there, benefiting from a sibling discount. On the other hand, Prince Louis attended a private nursery before eventually joining his older siblings at Lambrook School near the family's Windsor home.
In 2022, George and Charlotte joined Louis at Lambrook School, where all three children are currently enrolled. Initially, the annual tuition breakdown was estimated at around $17,363 for Louis, $25,508 for Charlotte, and $27,688 for George, resulting in a total yearly cost of over $70,500 for the family. However, those expenses have since increased due to the implementation of a 20 percent VAT on private school fees.
The royal education bill is about to peak. In June 2026, Kensington Palace announced that Prince George would attend Eton College, his father's alma mater. The elite boarding school's current tuition sits at roughly $27,823 per term, or $83,470 annually. Should George complete the full five-year curriculum, the total cost for his time at Eton will reach an estimated $417,889.
There is also a lot of speculation around the future educational choices of Charlotte and Louis. Royal experts have suggested that Charlotte could attend Wellington College or Marlborough College, where her mother studied. Marlborough's current boarding fees stand at approximately $84,440 per year, meaning a four-year education there could cost about $337,759. Louis' future school plans remain unknown, though Eton and Marlborough are among the schools reportedly being considered.
Taken together, the secondary education of all three Wales children could cost well over $900,000. If George, Charlotte, and Louis later pursue university degrees, like both of their parents did, the family's total education spending could easily surpass $1.3 million.
