Princess Charlotte Could Follow Mom Kate Middleton’s Steps In Key Future Decision: Expert

After a lot of consideration, Prince William and Kate Middleton have supposedly decided where to send their children for secondary schooling. It's a norm among the royal members to attend the same school as their parent of the same sex. It seems Prince George and Princess Charlotte will also be following the tradition unique to the monarchy. While George is set to follow in his father’s footsteps, Charlotte will reportedly attend her mother’s alma mater.

A report by the Daily Mail claims that after several discussions about George’s school, his parents are now reconsidering their initial choice — Eton College, an all-boys institute in Berkshire. Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry, also went to the same school. The little prince was reportedly registered in Eton, one of the most expensive schools in Britain, "several years ago".
However, an insider has claimed that there is a ‘smugness’ from Eton regarding the future announcement. They told the publication, “It was like, 'I know something and the people at Eton know something, but I'm not going to tell you'. That was after William and Kate visited Eton.” The 11-year-old will not start at the new school until September 2026. According to GB News, with George's secondary school finalized, it leaves Charlotte to join Marlborough College, a co-ed school attended by her mother and her aunt Pippa.
Wales’ three children currently attend Lambrook School. The royal couple considered sending all three kids to the same institution once they reached secondary age. However, the proximity of Eton College to the family’s current residence, Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, prompted them to return to their original choice.
Reportedly, the couple also thought of breaking the royal tradition of their children going to the same school as their parent of the same sex. However, Wales had a difficult year following Kate's cancer diagnosis, although now she's in remission. During her treatment, she and William prioritized their family and took a short break from their royal duties. The unforeseen challenges on the personal front are believed to have further influenced their decision to opt for a school which could keep George closer. So, Middleton and William undertook a ‘great deal of research’ in finding the best option for the future king.
Commenting on the supposed decision around George's schooling, Royal expert Jennie Bond explained to the Mirror, “I think it's quite likely that, after the year they have had, and how unsettling it must have been for George and the other children, no matter how hard their parents tried to lessen the trauma of cancer, that they would all feel happier and more secure if they could remain as a tight family unit.”
In Bond’s views, breaking the tradition altogether and sending the children to day school would have also been a great option for Wales. Reflecting on the Prince and Princess of Wales abiding by the royal tradition, she opined, “Personally, I think it would be brilliant if they completely broke with tradition and, indeed, their own school background and sent all three children to a day school for the rest of their education. That really would signal that this royal couple intend to do things differently.”
