Prince William and Princess Kate Under Fire as New Report Reveals Their Royal Work Tally
William and Kate's alleged work-shy approach has raised concerns for an institution dependent on members in their 70s.
Prince William and Princess Kate, often dubbed work-shy, are back in the headlines again as a new tally has put their workload back under the microscope. According to the latest quarterly 2026 engagement count, the Prince of Wales logged just 22 solo engagements, while the Princess recorded 11. Their figures pale in comparison to King Charles, who has carried out an impressive 86 solo visits despite his age and cancer treatment, raising concerns about the work ethic of the future king and queen.
As reported by Femigra, the news numbers aren't the first blemish in William and Kate's alleged lighter workload. Last year's engagement figures from the Court Circular also echoed a similar pattern. It showed Charles topping the chart with 535 appearances, followed by Princess Anne on 478. In comparison, William undertook 202 engagements, while Kate was right at the bottom with only 68 visits. The figures brought back criticism on the couple's alleged 'work-shy' persona, with some believing that their repeated emphasis on focusing on parenting their three children was now growing old.
Netizens on Reddit also expressed their displeasure after the 2026 quarterly figures went public. A royal watcher fumed, "I love the excuse, giving their kids a 'NORMAL' upbringing, while there is zero normal about them. They don't have a standard job, they don't cook, clean, or do anything that normal people do..." In a similar vein, another echoed, "I don't understand why they don't just… work more. Their golden era as newlyweds has passed. If they want George to be king, they should step it up." Meanwhile, a person noted, "Kate and William are in their prime and young enough; surely Charles and Camilla, who are well into their 70s, should be slowing down."
William and Kate have consistently been recording fewer engagements. While the Princess of Wales has sometimes been given a pass owing to her cancer recovery, the Prince has been criticized for prioritizing informal engagements he enjoys, especially since he commands a reported salary of $31M annually.
