One of the reasons why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to leave the United Kingdom was because the former was apparently sick of being around his sibling.
"The Duchess of Cambridge’s coolness towards Meghan, and William’s alleged bullying contributed to a devastating 'Cain and Abel' fallout between the brothers," biographer Andrew Morton wrote in Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, which was originally published in 2018 and has recently been updated with six new chapters. "Harry was the 'prime mover' in souring relations between the Sussexes and the Royal Family, but it was Meghan who ‘took the hit.'"
"Far from abandoning Meghan, the Palace had a team which spent ‘hundreds of hours monitoring social media accounts' and ‘violent threats were reported to the police," he wrote.
This is hardly the first time it's been claimed that William wasn't nice to the couple, who moved to the U.S. in 2020.
In January 2020, The Sunday Times reported that the Sussexes had been "pushed away from the royal family by the 'bullying' attitude of his brother the Duke of Cambridge."
However, the royal family said that was far from true. "Despite clear denials, a false story ran in a U.K. newspaper today speculating about the relationship between the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge," they said in the joint statement. "For brothers who care so deeply about the issues surrounding mental health, the use of inflammatory language in this way is offensive and potentially harmful."
In June, Robert Lacey released new excerpts in Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult, which allegedly detailed what went down between Harry, 37, and William, 39.
After the dad-of-three found out that Meghan allegedly bullied a staff member, “Prince William went ballistic when he heard the ‘dossier of distress’ that [former communications secretary Jason] Knauf had gathered,” Lacey wrote.
"When Harry flared up in furious defense of his wife, the elder brother persisted," the excerpt continued. "Harry shut off his phone angrily, so William went to speak to him personally. The prince was horrified by what he had just been told about Meghan's alleged behavior, and he wanted to hear what Harry had to say. The showdown between the brothers was fierce and bitter."
