Prince Harry's Response to Meghan Being a Divorcee Is Deeply Concerning: 'Would They Finally...'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been madly in love since they met on a blind date in 2016. It took the pair only 2 years to tie the knot and make things official. While it was Harry’s first marriage, Markle was previously married to film producer Trevor Engelson. They married in August 2011 and got divorced roughly two years later. A royal marrying an American divorcee was bound to stir things up, and it did. Harry has spoken openly about the pain he felt reading headlines about his wife’s past in his memoir, Spare. He shared that, to many in the UK, Markle's divorce was seen as a ‘scarlet letter.’
As reported by The List, the Duke penned, “Divorce in 2016 was deemed by the British press to be a scarlet letter.” He, however, added how the press showed no mercy for people, regardless of their marital status. “Would they [the press] finally feel some if they caused a divorce? Or would it take another death? What had become of all the shame they had felt in the late 1990s?” The Prince was referring to his late mother, Princess Diana, who was relentlessly pursued by paparazzi after divorcing Prince Charles. This dark turn of thought hinted at just how saddening Harry found all the stories about his wife's past life.
In 2016, like Harry mentioned, Markle was subjected to constant media scrutiny from the British press for her past. The situation worsened to the point that Harry’s office released a statement condemning the derogatory headlines. It read, “Meghan Markle has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. [Harry] is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. This is not a game — it is her life and his.” Unfortunately for the Duke, he also has had to fend off persistent divorce rumors in recent years.

As per People magazine, during a New York Times Dealbook Summit, journalist Andrew Sorkin questioned Harry about the separation rumors sparked by his and Markle's increased solo appearances. In response, the Prince said, “Apparently, we've bought or moved house 10-12 times. We've apparently divorced maybe 10-12 times as well. So it's just like, what?” He continued, “It's hard to keep up with, but that's why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it's like, 'Yes, yes, yes,' and then it doesn't happen.” He asserted that he wants to be “the best husband and dad" he can be.

While Markle’s marriage to Engelson came crashing down, sources suggest that the same won't be happening with Harry. According to News Nation, a Palace insider dished, “Harry and Meghan are actually madly in love. But even if things went wrong and they fell out, there would be no divorce…He would never leave his children. He wants the nuclear family he never had growing up.” Another source told The Mirror that the Sussexes are ‘fed up’ with the divorce rumors and would ‘fight tooth and nail’ to stay together.
