Prince Harry’s Family Reunion Efforts Have Hit a Major Roadblock
The royal rift grew intense mainly after Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties.
The long-running rift between Prince Harry and the Royal Family has been marked by several public revelations, personal grievances, and repeated reconciliation efforts. The situation grew intense mainly after Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties in 2020, and publicly criticized some of the senior Royals in candid interviews, as well as Harry's controversial memoir, Spare. While there have been occasional signs of reconciliation since then—including a brief reunion with King Charles a few months ago—reports claim that hope now appears to be fading.
Royal expert Christopher Andersen, who is also the author of Brothers and Wives, recently said, “They [the Royal Family] haven’t got the bandwidth to repair the long-standing rupture with Harry. That whole healing process appears to have been put on hold.” As reported by US Weekly, he feels that all other issues have currently been overshadowed by the massive legal fallout from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s February arrest in connection with the Epstein scandal.
The expert said, "The Epstein scandal and Andrew’s involvement in it have rocked the monarchy to its core. In the midst of all this turmoil, Harry and Meghan have very much been put on the back burner.” Similarly, another source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously claimed, "Healing with Harry’s family is not the royal family’s priority at the moment." The person even clarified that there are no plans for a reunion anytime soon, not even during the King's upcoming state visit to America later this month.
Charles’ US trip is said to be entirely official, with no room for any kind of private engagements. Many also believe that arranging any meeting with the Duke and Duchess may be inappropriate, as this would be a taxpayer-funded visit. Meanwhile, although Harry’s relationship with his family has been extremely turbulent, he did try, at times, to make things better. For instance, when he met his dad in September last year, a source revealed, "The meeting was sparked by a handwritten letter from Harry earlier this year to Charles expressing his desire to reconnect.”
At first, both Harry and Charles were doubtful whether the meeting would even take place, but in the end, they successfully managed to make it happen. A source even revealed that the exchange between the two turned out to be warm and comfortable throughout. The person said, "They were catching up personally about the children and what has been going on with Charles and his health. There were hugs and tears." Now, with Harry expected to return to the UK later this year, there's still some hope for a possible reconciliation.
