Prince Harry's Alleged 'Decoy' Plan to Sneak Meghan and Kids to Meet King Charles Finally Revealed
Turns out, getting Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet to meet King Charles required Prince Harry to pull out all the stops.
Prince Harry's trip to the UK earlier this month saw him, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, reunite and bury the hatchet with King Charles. The Sussex family arrived on July 10 at Highgrove House for the private meeting, unbeknownst to the press and in complete secrecy. According to royal author Tina Brown, the secret reunion was made possible by a carefully planned 'decoy,' with Harry allegedly using a Chanel event and the stream of arriving vehicles to discreetly sneak his family in.
On her Substack, Fresh Hell, Brown detailed how the Duke cleverly took advantage of the event hosted at the Gloucester estate to bring his family in. She penned, "That same day, there was a Chanel-hosted lunch at Highgrove for 150 guests to celebrate craftspeople funded by the King's Foundation. The Sussex car slipped in amongst the stream of arriving vehicles and pulled up at another entrance," where she claimed they were picked up from. One of the guests at the lunch reportedly told her, "It was like being at Waterloo, but the wrong end of Waterloo," referring to the 1815 Battle of Waterloo, when Napoleon made a huge mistake by ordering a diversionary attack on Hougoumont, which failed to achieve its objective.
Against that context, Brown noted that the Duchess and her children had been in Portugal—where the Sussexes reportedly own a holiday home—just the day before heading to the UK. She stressed that it "didn't seem to occur to Harry" that he could have brought Archie and Lilibet to the UK "undetected" safely and securely, without the high-level security he insisted was necessary. She continued, "Harry haters and many in William's camp considered the Highgrove rapprochement a reward for Harry's manipulation and emotional blackmail. Others labeled the King as weak."
It's not just Brown, as celebrity and entertainment journalist Paula Froelich also alleged in a video on her YouTube channel, that the Chanel event may have served "as a ruse," allowing the Sussexes to smartly slip into the Gloucestershire estate amidst a convoy of luxury vehicles. Regardless of the method used, the meeting signaled a significant thaw in Harry and Meghan's frosty relationship with the King and Queen. However, the couple has yet to build bridges with Prince William and Princess Kate or introduce Archie and Lilibet to their three royal cousins.
Shortly after the meeting, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the private family gathering had taken place at Charles's Highgrove residence. The location was a convenient choice, as the monarch had been carrying out official engagements nearby in Oxfordshire while the Duke was in Birmingham marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. The family chose to keep all other details strictly under wraps, with no photos or additional information expected to be released.
