Prince Harry Slammed With Another Petition — This Time Over His Royal Status
A Change.org petition is calling for sweeping changes to Harry and Meghan's royal standing, and it has done its legal homework.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had barely seen the back of one petition when another arrived. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who faced a wave of public opposition during their recent trip to Australia, are now the subject of a fresh campaign on Change.org — and this one comes with a considerably more detailed plan of attack.
Filed by a user going by @cidstweeet, the petition not only calls for Harry's titles to be stripped but also what King Charles can and cannot do unilaterally, and then directs signatories toward the specific people and institutions with the power to act. The same user posted on X, laying out the legal landscape, wrote, "I want to be clear, King Charles cannot unilaterally strip Prince Harry of his peerage titles (like Duke of Sussex), but he does have the power to remove certain royal styles and honorifics. Only Parliament can strip him of his title as the Duke of Sussex. He also cannot remove him from the line of succession, or from being a counselor of state, which also requires an act of parliament. What the King can do is remove his HRH and his Prince title, remove him and his wife from the Royal website, strip him from Invictus, and petition Parliament to strip the rest."
The petition's creator did not stop at the petition alone. He also said, "For anyone who's had enough, who is sick of sitting back waiting for Harry and Meghan's destruction and actually wants to do something to stop these two malignant narcissists, here are the addresses of the people who can make that happen. I encourage you to take up your pens and your keyboards to hasten their end, and went on to add the contacts and addresses of King Charles's office among several other authorities.
The petition itself pulls no punches. It accuses Harry and Markle of using their royal status as a vehicle for personal enrichment, pointing specifically to their association with vulnerable groups — including sick children and victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack, as examples of what it calls calculated image management. The petition already has close to 1300 signatures. "By associating their image with vulnerable groups, they have positioned themselves as benevolent figures, yet obscured the underlying self-serving motives," the description reads. The petition also takes aim at Markle directly, alleging that merchandising her apparel under the cover of charity events reflects a pattern of exploiting public goodwill for profit.
The petition has numerous demands. Signatories are calling for the immediate removal of Harry and Markle's HRH styles, their removal from the Royal website, Harry's removal from Invictus, denial of taxpayer-funded security, and petitions to Parliament to strip their remaining titles and remove Harry from both the line of succession and his role as counselor of state. The petition describes Invictus, founded by the Royal Family, as an organization now "floundering under Harry's care" while bankrolling what it calls "faux royal appearances worldwide."
This is not the first time a petition of this kind has gained traction. Harry and Markle's recent four-day trip to Australia sparked its own wave of public opposition, with a separate campaign circulating over their appearances there and questions about whether taxpayer-funded security was being used on their behalf.
