Prince Harry Reminds People of His Mother With Heartfelt Gesture During Ukraine Visit
The Duke of Sussex received a warm welcome from Kyiv locals during his recent visit to Ukraine.
Princess Diana is considered to be one of the most loved members of the royal family, and also a controversial one. She was even referred to as the 'People’s Princess' for her deep connection with the public and her compassionate humanitarian work. She was also outspoken like her son, Prince Harry, and made headlines for her relationship with Charles and the Queen. Now, after her death, Prince Harry is frequently compared to his mother. During his recent visit to Ukraine, he captured everyone's attention with the way he greeted the members of the public. He reminded everyone of Princess Diana with his statement and honored her with his gesture.
The Duke of Sussex was heading to give a speech at the Kyiv Security Conference, but before going there, he received a warm welcome from the locals. As reported by The Mirror, a huge crowd gathered at the train station just to greet him. In return, as a gesture of gratitude for their hospitality, Harry took an unusual step that reportedly broke long-standing royal protocol. In a video clip shared on the social media platform by ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Harry was seen warmly hugging the members of the public, something that’s rarely seen among any other senior royals.

As per the traditional norms, the common public is not expected to touch a royal unless they first extend their hands, but Diana was quite well-known for breaking that barrier. She was often spotted greeting people with warm hugs. Previously, royal expert Robert Jobson also claimed that Diana had an impact on the way royals interacted with people. As reported by The List, he said, "Certainly Harry and Meghan were very much into hugs in their time as a working royal couple, just like Diana. It was perhaps Diana, more than anyone else, who changed that. She was always open to hugging people and famously shook hands with a man with HIV/AIDS."
Meghan Markle has also been in favor of spreading that warmth, previously calling herself a 'hugger' in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan. She said, "I was a hugger, always been a hugger. I didn't realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits." Moving ahead, when observed, it’s not just Harry or Meghan, because there have been clear signs that the younger generation of royal family members is trying to change the long-held tradition. For instance, Prince William has also been spotted offering hugs during various public engagements.
Meanwhile, the clip shared by Good Morning Britain highlighted Harry urging everyone not to lose sight of what Ukraine is currently facing amid its ongoing war with Russia. Additionally, he is also set to dedicate time during his visit to Ukraine to support the Invictus Games Foundation, an initiative that he established to help and empower wounded veterans. Along with this, he was expected to witness firsthand the high-risk efforts of The HALO Trust, an organization that is dedicated to clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance in war-affected regions.
