Prince Harry Gets Called ‘Fish Out of Water’ For His Latest Cameo on Meghan Markle’s Show
With the festive season around the corner, Meghan Markle has released the trailer for her upcoming Netflix special titled With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. What caught the attention of royal watchers was, however, Prince Harry's cameo. In the clip, the Duke of Sussex is seen joining his wife briefly on screen, bending down for an affectionate kiss. Weighing in on the sweet moment, a body language expert has argued that Harry’s cameo revealed more than simple affection.
The Duke appeared briefly in the first season, too, but not at all in the second season. This time, he shows up on screen within seconds, dressed casually in a light brown linen shirt. He holds a bowl of food before the Duchess reaches up and wraps her hand around his neck, leaning in for a kiss. Though the couple looked happy, body language expert Judi James argues that Harry may not have felt entirely comfortable during the scene.
James told The Mirror, "He is seen standing front on to camera looking like a very self-conscious fish out of water as he holds a small bowl aloft and too high for comfort as he mixes whatever small dollop he has inside it." The expert even draws a comparison to the 2019 royal pudding-making session featuring Queen Elizabeth, the then-Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince George, which Harry did not attend. James suggests the small serving he stirs in the trailer looks like a pared-down version of the family tradition, stressing, "If so, this looks like a very censorious portion size version."
Additionally, James highlighted how Markle rewarded Harry with a kiss, which she argues was deliberate. "She hooks her hand around his neck before stretching and baring her own neck to plant a kiss that suggests total approval for his rather show-pony appearance in her idealistic version of the holidays." This aligns with earlier reports that the Duke is not particularly at ease when it comes to packing on the PDA for the camera.
Apart from Harry’s cameo, James also paid close attention to Markle’s voice throughout the trailer. According to her, "Meghan employs some vocal tone trickery here, adopting a whisper voice at one point as she speaks about 'crafts' to suggest a state of childlike excitement and then what is known as a 'vocal fry' at another: a creaking lowered tone to hint at some kind of sensual, laid-back sophistication as she talks about making 'people feel comfortable.'" This, she hints, is again for the cameras.
Markle’s special will drop on Netflix on December 3, during a particularly busy week for the royal family, on the same day German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier begins his state visit to the UK. Just two days later, on December 5, Princess Kate’s ‘Together at Christmas’ carol concert will also take place at Westminster Abbey, with Kate Winslet expected to attend.
