IT has been six years after 'Megxit', but now Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced a huge move back to the UK.

Sources close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have revealed that the pair, who previously stepped away as senior working members of the Royal Family are due to cross the pond back to Harry's home country within days. According to News.com.au, the couple are set to jet back for a "extended period" and their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, are already enrolled in local schools.

The publication reports that the exact length of their stay has has not been determined but the decision surrounding the education of their children - who will start school in September - indicates they are keen to re-establish a base in the country for the foreseeable future. The location of their new base and the school location was not shared with the outlet, but sources online report they possibly still intend to also keep their mansion in Montecito, California

The King and Queen

Sources close to the couple also revealed that The King and Queen were informed recently about their decision to return. This comes barely a month after a private reunion tea was held at The King's residence of Highgrove in Gloucestershire.

Prince Harry was joined by his family which includes Meghan Markle, Archie and Lilibet for the occasion amid their summer holiday in Europe. Meghan previously shared images of the family's escape to Althorp, the childhood home of Harry's mother, Princess Diana on Instagram. This was after the family spent the summer in a villa in Portugal.

Reacting to the news, Royal commentator Afua Hagan exclusively told The Royal Observer: "It's definitely a new era for the royals. If we look at the moves Harry has, I think actually this has been building for a while.

"If we look at the moves Harry has been making this summer, particularly spending you know a good period of time here trying to get the security sorted. I think it's clear that actually maybe this had been on the cards for a while. I think what's surprising to everyone is the speed of which this is happening. Not only are they moving back to the UK within a matter of days, also the kids are going to be enrolled at school in September, which is only sort of like a couple of weeks away.

She added: "This is something that has been building. It's clear that Harry wants to have a closer relationship, particularly with his father, and he's clearly making the move to do that."

Speaking to the Royal Observer, News.Com.Au correspondent Bronte Coy also stated that the Spencer side of the family might have also played a factor on the decision saying: "So much of the attention has been on the King's time with the Sussexes, but of course the Spencers are a huge part of this story."

"To me it was made very clear that they wanted to be they wanted to be spending time with the Spencers as well, so for all these reasons, and I think the fact that Harry misses a lot of elements of his UK life, and that's what I'm being told, I think that this doesn't come as a huge surprise."

Their future career

Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle return to royal duties?

That remain's to be seen. However, sources have indicated this might not happen. Bronte Coy disclosed to the Royal Observer that the pair intend to carry on with a 'blend' of commercial activities as well as philanthropic and charity initiatives.

She exclusively told me: "That what they want to do, their style of modelling moving forward, is to do the commercial things so that that then funds the other side, so obviously this is not going to be a burden on taxpayers." Bronte added: "People close to Harry said that he was very keen to continue this style of tour. Now that obviously was going to encompass the UK."

Afua also said "I genuinely didn't even think we would see Meghan sort of on British soil. Just visiting, never mind moving back here. But it's clear how important it is for Harry to be in the United Kingdom at this time ... We've gone on a real roller coaster to get here, but here we are. You know, they're not going to be working royals. They'll still be working on their own projects."

"Harry will definitely be closer to things like the Invictus Games taking place in Birmingham in 2027. We've got the WellChild Awards, which is at the beginning of September, and all the other charities, Scotty's Little Soldiers that he works with as well. He'll be much closer to them, which will be great for him."

She also told me that Meghan plans to expand her lifestyle range: saying: "For Megan, and As Ever, I think there are always plans for global expansion. In that, we can definitely see the UK being, you know, the next place that will be shipped too for as ever. ... It can mean expansion for Megan's brand this side of the pond. It means they're closer to family, which is something that they want. The king has already been informed about this, so the gear is already in motion, It's definitely a new phase in their lives."
