New Princess Diana Book is the ‘Last Thing the King Needs’, according to expert
EXCLUSIVE: One expert tells the Royal Observer that Earl Spencer's new project could be 'concerning' to the King, Queen and even Prince Harry amid his return home to the UK
PRINCESS Diana’s brother Charles Spencer sensationally announced that he will be releasing a new book dedicated to his late sister.
The 9th Earl Spencer has vowed to finally ‘tell the truth’ in his new project before the 30th anniversary of her passing. Titled ‘Swan Song: Diana My Sister,’ the book also promises to contain "revelations that will draw considerable attention." This is something that Buckingham Palace should be concerned about, according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams. Speaking to the Royal Observer, he speculated on why the announcement came so soon after Prince Harry’s trip to Althorp with his family and amid the announcement that he and Meghan are returning to the UK.
Fitzwilliams remarked: “But very, very curious, almost as though [it could be possible] he and Harry might perhaps have discussed this and possibly even arranged this between themselves, because we don't know what's going to happen next year. We don't know how William and Harry will commemorate this very substantial anniversary?
"We know they did in the 20th, and they did it together. Things have, of course, changed radically.” Adding: “The fact that undoubtedly the Sussex’s visited Diana's grave at Althorp, will he [Charles Spencer] be using this opportunity to settle old scores, and if so, in what way? The palace should be very worried."
The second son of King Charles visited his late mother’s childhood home over the summer months with his wife Meghan Markle and their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five. She drew considerable interest after posting an album of holiday snaps onto her Instagram profile, which appeared to include an image of Prince Harry taking their children – who were holding flowers - to their grandmother’s graveside on the sprawling estate. It has now been revealed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also enrolled their children in local schools in the UK to start in September.
Charles Spencer, 62, and his wife Cat Jarman, 43, were also visible in the background of another of her images as they all relaxed by the pool together. However, Fitzwilliams pondered why Earl Spencer decided to release his book at this moment.
He told The Royal Observer: “The timing is extremely strange because you've got 29 years, indeed, it's not actually timed to a specific anniversary in the month. It's towards the end of September.
“I would have thought that the 30th would have been an appropriate and indeed understandable choice, but of course, no one can deny, as her brother, he has a story to tell, and there's also no question that this is going to mean the most enormous amount of publicity worldwide.”
The palace should be very worried - Richard Fitzwilliams
Meanwhile, the expert also stated that the King and Queen should be especially ‘concerned’ about the release of the new book. “It is indeed the last thing he needs,” Fitzwilliams stated. “One of the problems with this is the fact that it will remind people of things that they put to the back of their minds, and also it would introduce those who are interested to unflattering details, because Charles Spencer is not going to pull any punches. He can't if publishers wouldn't let him.”
He added: “They do add fuel to what may be very, very awkward for the royal family. It's bound to be.” There is no suggestion of any direct link between the book’s announcement and Prince Harry’s visit, nor any suggestion of Prince Harry’s involvement in the book or its announcement. The Royal Observer has approached Prince Harry’s representatives for comment.
