Meghan Markle may have stepped back from the royal life in 2020, but the door to Britain has never been fully closed. The Duchess of Sussex is said to be open to returning to the UK under certain conditions. The shift comes amid Prince Harry’s renewed efforts to rebuild ties with his father, King Charles. The Duke had visited his homeland in September and shared a cup of tea with the monarch for approximately 50 minutes. While reconciliation talks remain uncertain, the conversation has reopened a question many believed was settled for good. Even so, any potential return of Markle faces one significant obstacle: Princess Kate.

Behind the scenes, sources suggest that the Duchess’s openness to return is not rooted in nostalgia. According to an insider cited by the Express, Markle would consider a move back to the UK only “for the right price.” One source claimed, "Meghan can be bought for the right figure. She will hold her tongue and dip lower in the curtsey to Kate.” They further alleged that her intentions are strategic, saying, “she's premeditated and in it for her children's future -- nothing beats royal status.” That calculation is unfolding alongside a significant legal development for Harry.

The Duke of Sussex’s dispute with the Home Office over taxpayer-funded security is now under review, a move many believe could change Harry and Markle’s options. The Prince has previously said that he feared for his family’s safety after his request for security was denied. "I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point,” he told the BBC at the time. However, following his September sit-down with his father, he told The Guardian that he is now “closer” to bringing his kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to his homeland. With security now under review, conditions may finally be shifting in the couple’s favor.

Still, any move back to Britain would require more than logistics. Sources stress that Princess Kate remains deeply cautious. One Express insider claimed that the Princess of Wales can already “smell” Markle “from miles away,” adding pointedly, "Never underestimate the power of a cunning, driven woman." Yet they also emphasized Kate’s sense of duty, saying she will only act in the interests of the King and the country.

The question of optics also looms large. An insider claims Netflix would be keen to follow any return and will frame it as a moment of reconciliation for a global audience. "If that comes in a Netflix package in showing the country and the world that the Royal Family are united again, then they will.” Even so, they also stressed that the wider priority remains stability, adding, "Holding the Royal Family together is key for them all."

For now, a UK comeback remains a possibility rather than a plan. While Harry and Markle’s past projects like Harry & Meghan and With Love, Meghan have reshaped public trust, sources suggest that any return would come with firm boundaries. The Sussexes’ future in Britain will hinge not on money or media alone, but on whether reconciliation serves the monarchy as much as it serves them.
