Sussex Camp Breaks Silence After TV Host’s April Fool’s Prank About Meghan Markle Draws Backlash
Shortly after TV presenter Larry Emdur said that Meghan Markle would appear on 'The Morning Show,' her spokesperson swiftly denied the claims.
Meghan Markle was unexpectedly caught up in an April Fool's joke after Australian TV presenter Larry Emdur claimed she had agreed to an exclusive interview on The Morning Show. Moreover, he also said that she had personally approved a long list of questions ahead of her much-anticipated Australia tour. Shortly after his revelations went viral, Markle's spokesperson clarified that no such interview would be taking place. Emdur later issued a statement, confirming that his remarks were part of an April Fool's prank.
Taking to his Instagram on April 1, Emdur, who's the host of The Morning Show, said, "Ahead of her Australian tour, The Duchess of Sussex has agreed to one single interview, and IT IS WITH US !!!... Not gonna lie, the list of 'don't ask' questions is long, but we still can't wait." He added, "I've deliberately turned off the comments section as I'm not interested in those nasty threads that can sometimes follow Meghan. See you after 9 on our biggest @morningshowon7 ever." After the post garnered significant attention, GB News contacted Markle's spokesperson, who confirmed that it was part of an April Fool's joke and that the Duchess of Sussex had no plans to appear on The Morning Show anytime soon.
Unsurprisingly, Emdur faced a wave of criticism after his April Fool's joke was exposed. In his own clarification, he took to Instagram once again, saying, "I posted it on April 1st then it was sent around the world and landed in various feeds days later so it somehow lost its April Fools sting which I think is bloody hysterical, that constitutes a hugely successful April Fools gag in my book, anyway if you're angry then just unfollow me coz I don’t do angry." The Duchess has never appeared on the daytime TV program so far.
While Markle has no plans to participate in a broadcast interview during her visit to Australia, she is set to take part in an interview-style conversation at the InterContinental at Coogee Beach from April 17-19. Hosted by Her Best Life, it invites guests to "join us for an intimate luxury weekend by the ocean designed to bring women together for powerful conversations, relaxation, laughter, and unforgettable experiences." The highlight of the event will be an 'in-person conversation' with the Duchess, who is described as a dedicated champion of mental health and the rights of women and girls.
As for Prince Harry and Markle's upcoming Australia tour, the couple announced via their spokesperson that they would "take part in a number of private, business, and philanthropic engagements." Meanwhile, their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are not expected to travel with them to the country. The trip will mark their first return to the country in seven years after their successful 2018 tour as working royals. Harry is also scheduled as a keynote speaker at a workplace mental health summit, with tickets quickly selling out, confirming it is no April Fool's prank.
