Meghan Markle Slammed For Using Princess Lilibet to Save Brand Amid Netflix Row
While Meghan Markle is no stranger to brickbats, she is facing far more severe criticism this time.
Amidst the recent rumors of her fallout with Netflix, Meghan Markle launched a new As Ever product this week. While the partnership with the streaming giant might have come to an end, Markle appears to be taking a step forward to grow her lifestyle brand independently. The Duchess of Sussex recently collaborated with luxury floral brand High Camp Gardenias to curate the Garden Tea Bloombox. The special hamper includes peppermint tea and sage honey from As Ever, along with white peonies, mint, and jasmine from High Camp Gardenias.
To promote the same, Markle took to Instagram on Thursday to share some sweet behind-the-scenes from the hamper photoshoot, featuring none other than Princess Lillibet. The 4-year-old could be seen hugging and helping her mother with flower arrangements. And in true toddler fashion, she settled under the table as Markle finished up creating the mise-en-scene for the shoot. However, netizens found the behind-the-scenes content to be a desperate attention grab and accused Markle of using her daughter to market her new product.
On X (formerly Twitter), a person slammed, “Wow, talk about peak desperation! She’s really shoving little Betty front and center, convinced the kid’s going to be her magic shield against the avalanche of awful headlines.” Several others joined in the comment section to voice their agreement. "Due to her infinite ability to create new and interesting content & coincidentally Love Story’s recent popularity, Meghan’s light bulb idea is to have Lily sitting under her dirt table as she works so hard!" a person mocked. "The kid will not save the day when the appendage attached to her is hated universally," another trolled. "Weird photos, all so fake and staged, and a child under a table looks terrible. Who advises them that this looks ok?" another user wondered. In a similar vein, a netizen questioned Markle and Prince Harry's stance on keeping their children's lives private, writing, "A new Hallmark card... Nothing says love like a parent's exploitation of the kids whose privacy you’re protecting till death,"
However, others came to Markle's defence. A comment read, "She's living life. Leave her be." "I love how you people obsess over everything she does," another noted.
Lillibet has been a regular feature on Markle's Instagram in recent times. The BTS post is her third consecutive appearance on her mother's page. On Valentine's Day this year, Markle shared a photo of Prince Harry lifting Lillibet in his arms as she held on to a bunch of red balloons. A few days after that, Markle shared a picture of her and Lilibet sitting on a beach for International Women's Day.
