Meghan Markle recently gifted a special hamper to a superfan, stirring a new controversy as social media users pointed out the irony.

Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the royal family in 2020, fans have divided themselves into two warring factions. One supports the Sussexes, while the other is on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s side. Over the years, the royal rift has led to unprecedented mudslinging and trolling on both sides. So much so that most of the Sussex squad seems to have adopted an anti-monarchy stance, and one of them is ‘The Notorious JTB,’ a Harry and Markle superfan on X. And the Duchess of Sussex just gifted them an expensive care package.

‘The Notorious JTB’ has not only diligently posted in support of the Sussexes, but has also partaken in trolling the Princess of Wales. Most recently, after Middleton’s triumphant Italy tour a few weeks back, the Sussex superfan reposted a video accusing her of 'mediocrity'. The original post’s caption read, “This video perfectly captures the mediocrity that is Kate Middleton. 20 years in and still no identity. Her fans and the media continue to prop her up, and in the process, do a complete disservice to her developmental arc. And it shows clearly.”

On Tuesday, 'The Notorious JTB' posted a video of them opening a huge As Ever package, reportedly sent by Markle, which featured her infamous flower sprinkles, honey, Signature-scented candles, a leather bookmark, her recently launched matchbox, and a handwritten letter. The caption of the video read, “The Duchess sent me a gift. I am not exaggerating when I say this was nowhere on my 2026 bingo card. Completely stunned. Completely grateful. Thank you, Meghan.” The hamper might have been specially curated as no such bundle is visible on As Ever’s website. Individually, the flower sprinkles are priced at $15, honey at $32, a pack of all four Signature-scented candles and a matchbox at $256. The leather bookmark is no longer available on the website, but was reportedly priced at $18. Watch the video here!

While sending gifts to fans is certainly a sweet gesture, JTB’s history of criticizing the monarchy and the Princess of Wales on social media casts an unflattering light on Markle’s move. The care package also seemed to spark a new controversy, as social media users pointed out the obvious irony between Markle’s words and her actions. In recent times, she has publicly been critical of social media, and in 2020, she revealed that she doesn’t read what people say about her online for 'self-preservation'.

"Thank you for exposing that Meghan indeed is aware of the bullies and harassers of the RF and awards them with disgusting jam." one social media user wrote, while another added, "MM doesn't go online/doesn't read about herself ok yet she not only knows about you, knows your home address, you send each other personal messages & she sends REWARDS  why in speeches does she call social media toxic?? her online harm prevention ‘activism‘ is performative." One social media user pointedly asked, "Does she approve of your online bullying of Catherine too?" and another wondered, "Hahahahhaha is this a paid for the PR?".

JTB had earlier ordered all four of As Ever's Signature-scented candles and the chocolate box the brand launched in collaboration with Compartés. The individual chocolate box is priced at $58 on the brand's website. Certainly, one care package has drawn a whole lot of drama for the Duchess.
