Meghan Markle Offers Rare Glimpse of Princess Lilibet With Powerful Advice to Young Girls

Meghan Markle has always championed women’s rights, urging girls to stand up and support one another. The Duchess of Sussex has also spoken up about the liberation of women’s anatomies and bodies in public forums. So, it came as little surprise that she took to her Instagram on International Day of the Girl on October 11, to share a powerful message for women.

She posted sweet photos and videos of her daughter, Princess Lilibet, and penned, "To all the girls, this world is yours. Do everything you can to protect your rights, use your voice, and support each other. We will do the same for you. It’s your right and our responsibility. Go get ‘em, girl! 🏃♀️ Happy International Day of the Girl."
The first clip showed Lilibet running freely in her Montecito mansion garden, symbolizing freedom. A second picture showed her holding her mother’s hands as they stood together in the garden. The Duchess, in a white ensemble, proudly looked at her daughter dressed in pink with a matching purse, interestingly, from the same brand that's her cousin Princess Charlotte's favorite.

Last year, Markle had similarly talked about being "one of the most bullied people in the world" during an event highlighting the day for #HalfTheStory, a nonprofit focused on improving people's relationship with technology. Larissa May, founder of the organization, told Vanity Fair, "We had girls wave these little emoji signs and talk about how each one of these scenarios would have impacted them emotionally." Being a mother to a girl, Markle is frequently known to contemplate issues that affect children, particularly young girls today.

Recently, she had also mentioned Lilibet during a New York appearance, revealing that she was growing up too fast. Markle and Prince Harry visited the Big Apple to accept the Humanitarians of the Year award at Project Healthy Minds. At the event, Markle shared, "Our children, Archie and Lilibet, are just 6 and 4 years old. Can you believe it?" Reflecting on the challenges parents face in the digital age, she added, "Luckily, they’re still too young for social media, but we know that day is coming. Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology’s benefits while safeguarding against its dangers."

With these recent glimpses into their children's lives, Markle has been softening her stance on privacy, being more comfortable with sharing photos of her children online. However, she ensures to capture them from the back or cover their faces with emojis. Speaking on their stance for privacy, a close friend told PEOPLE, "He [Harry] wants them to lead as normal a life as possible without the fear of kidnapping or harm. Harry is determined to ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself," referring to his own experiences with the media and the death of his mother, Princess Diana.
