Meghan Markle Hit With Brutal New Nickname After Wild Business Move
Harry was also dragged into the firing line and branded with a fresh moniker of his own.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship has been dissected and put under the microscope multiple times, but perhaps never quite this brutally. US-based royal commentator Kinsey Schofield revealed a new nickname given to Markle following her latest candle launch that became a hot topic online. But the viral backlash didn't stop there—Harry was also dragged into the firing line and branded with a fresh moniker of his own.
Harry has reportedly picked up the new nickname, ‘Hijack Harry’, among Buckingham Palace circles, tied to claims that the Sussexes have a habit of stealing the spotlight during major royal events. A source told RadarOnline, "Harry's new nickname among some staff is 'Hijack Harry' because there's a growing feeling every major royal event is suddenly accompanied by a Sussex announcement, photograph release or intervention that is seen as a pathetic attempt to shift the spotlight back onto them." Reflecting on the same, Schofield said on Sky News Australia that the latest example was when Markle shared images from the couple's wedding while King Charles and Queen Camilla were in the middle of their high-profile three-day visit to Northern Ireland.
“Harry shows up in the Ukraine to challenge President Trump and President Putin days before King Charles lands in DC to heal this rift between Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Donald Trump. Like, you know, you're not being helpful there,” the royal expert explained. She continued, “And days before King Charles visits victims of anti-semitism in the UK, Harry writes that op-ed for the [New Statesman], which a lot of us found completely inappropriate and bizarre. It does feel like they tried to distract from the British royal family.”
Moreover, even Sky News presenter Rita Panahi gave the nickname her stamp of approval, calling it “pretty damn good.” She then joked that Markle could use a new label too, as “Ginger and the Whinger” had started to feel overused. Schofield then floated a new contender, “Matchstick Meghan,” referencing As Ever’s latest candle launch that comes with luxury matches.
According to Schofield, social media users were quick to have their say on the latest release. She claimed some critics saw irony in the launch, linking the matches to Markle’s much-discussed estrangement from the royal family and her father, Thomas Markle. She said, “They joked that the matches were an interesting choice for someone frequently accused of burning bridges. You know, pointing to Megan's ongoing estrangement from both the royal family and her poor father, Thomas Markle.”
The price tag also became part of the conversation, with Schofield drawing attention to the cost of the candle collection. She commented, "You have to spend like over $200 on this candle set." The Signature Scent Collection is priced at US$256 (£190.40) and includes four candles along with a "limited edition" As Ever matchbox.
