Meghan Markle Accidentally Confirms Major Rumor About Prince Harry In New Teaser of Netflix Show

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently announced their new partnership with Netflix — a multi-year agreement — and quashed rumors that their five-year deal was in jeopardy. Shortly afterward, Markle dropped the trailer for Season 2 of her cooking show, With Love, Meghan. In the teaser, she chats with chef José Andrés about Harry’s eating habits, revealing that he dislikes lobster. The lighthearted moment appeared to subtly confirm a long-standing rumor that the royal family refrains from eating seafood, given the heightened risk of food poisoning.

As reported by HELLO!, Markle told Andrés, "Do you know who doesn’t like lobster? My husband." Surprised, the chef replied, "And you married him?" prompting laughter from her. The Duchess may not have realized she had subtly confirmed the royal family’s peculiar food choices when she revealed her husband’s eating preferences. In contrast, Markle is a die-hard seafood fan, once writing for TODAY that she often cooks Italian seafood stew (cioppino) at home, loves sushi, and counts fish tacos among her favorite comfort foods.

The royal family’s aversion to seafood was first revealed by royal butler Grant Harrold, who claimed that they avoid eating shellfish. Back in 2023, Harrold told the Daily Express, "When dining, the royal family has to be careful with shellfish due to shellfish poisoning, due to their work schedules." He continued, "It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties. We don’t want a member of the royal family having a serious reaction to food poisoning. Especially if [they] are on an overseas tour." Other than seafood, garlic is also a big no-no because of its pungent smell. Additionally, the late Queen disliked carbs and, according to her former chef Darren McGrady, often skipped starches such as potatoes, pasta, and rice for dinner.

McGrady, however, debunked Harrold's claim that the royal family completely avoids seafood at royal events. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he posted a photo of a royal menu from 1989 showing that the Queen enjoyed soufflé de homard at Windsor Castle, with 'homard' being French for lobster. He captioned it, "Proof that the royal family DO actually eat shellfish." He also said, "We cooked a lot of traditional French food, like halibut on a bed of spinach with a Mornay sauce...I don't know how long that dated back to, but even the family dining menu was in French. The Queen speaks fluent French."

As for Harry’s favorite delicacy, Markle told PEOPLE that her husband and son, Prince Archie, love eating bacon and fried eggs. She shared, "There's a lot of bacon around here. And then sometimes you don't have time for all that, and you just put a frozen waffle in the toaster and call it a day." The new season of her cooking show is set to premiere on August 26 and will feature an array of famous celebrity guests.
