‘Major Assets’ Harry and Meghan May Solve a ‘Future Problem’ That William May Not Have Anticipated
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can be big assets to the royal family in solving one key issue in the future.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK has given rise to a variety of possibilities about the Firm in the coming months. Each seems more probable than the other. And while the couple has crossed the pond in a private capacity, one can’t help but wonder if they would enter the royal fold in the future. Given the rift between Harry and Prince William, many have opined that the UK would see two rival courts.
Royal expert John McDermott told the Daily Express that the country was going to enter an 'interesting period' after Harry and Markle’s return. “We are going to enter an interesting period of duelling courts. Harry is quite capable of championing the causes important to him without help from The Firm, as we have seen over the past few years,” he said. However, according to him, the couple can be an aid to the royal family.
While King Charles and William have endorsed a slimmed-down monarchy in the coming years, many are of the view that there not being enough working royals could pose a problem in the future. And McDermott believes that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could help tackle that very issue going forward. “To me, the interesting piece is that Harry and Meghan could potentially help solve the future problem of there simply not being enough working royals, something that could become more apparent during William’s reign,” he said.
2027 is touted to be a decisive year for Harry and William. It will be Princess Diana’s 30th death anniversary next year, and it is expected that the brothers might reunite for the poignant moment. And if the much-awaited reconciliation were to take place, it would change things around in the Palace. “If the brothers can patch things up, and the anniversary of Diana’s death next year seems like one possible opportunity, Harry and Meghan could be major assets to the Crown. But in the short term, I do not anticipate a return to royal duties,” McDermott added.
However, so far, William and Kate Middleton have kept their distance from the Sussexes. When Harry and Markle had a private meeting with Charles at Highgrove last month, the Prince and Princess of Wales were away from the joyous occasion. The pair tended to their busy calendars instead.
Meanwhile, Harry and Markle landed in Birmingham this week and are reportedly focusing on settling down. Their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will likely join their new schools next month.
