Kate Middleton May Lean on an Unlikely Royal for 'Secret Support' When She's Queen: Author

King Charles continues to scale back on his royal duties amid ongoing health concerns, and as per reports he’s leaning more on Prince William and Princess Kate to take the reins on key royal engagements. The shift has only added urgency to Middleton’s steady evolution into her future role as Queen. Much like her husband, the Princess of Wales has spent years building the kind of public trust and goodwill that will matter when the time comes. But while the spotlight often falls on her royal image and public appearances, much of her real strength comes from a solid support system, the Middleton family. According to a royal expert, a lesser-known ally is also Alizée Thevenet, wife of Kate’s brother, James Middleton.

Royal expert and psychologist Dr. Arthur Cassidy told HELLO! that Thevenet may be uniquely positioned to become a quiet, behind-the-scenes force in Kate’s life when she eventually becomes Queen. Her low public profile and close ties to the Middleton family could make her a 'secret support' figure at a time when the pressures of the Crown will be at it's peak. “[Thevenet] potentially can learn the rudiments of negotiating her pathway into the Middleton family,” Dr. Cassidy said, “and hopefully becoming a source of strength, hope, and optimism to our future queen.”
According to the Express, Thevenet’s subtle role within the family, combined with the trust she’s built, could come into sharper focus when William ascends to the throne and Kate becomes Queen Consort. Cassidy also highlighted the key role of Carole Middleton in shaping that bond. “[Carole] is always elegant and chic with a hint of mild sophistication,” Cassidy explained. “And the first impression made is a significant influence on how she interacts with Thevenet, thereby shaping the foundation of future high-profile and family gatherings.” Thevenet stepped out alongside the royals at this year's Royal Ascot, alongside Carole, which goes to show how close she is with them.

The author added, “[There is] an expression of positivity and optimism about how [Carole] and also Michael, besides Catherine, Pippa, and James, will help facilitate Thevenet into a new era of family cohesion and happiness.” Alongside Thevenet’s discreet presence, Kate’s younger sister Pippa could also take on a more formal role. Pippa is likely to be appointed Kate’s Lady-in-Waiting when she becomes Queen. Traditionally held by a noblewoman or trusted companion, the role is less about status and more about loyalty and access.
Though Pippa doesn’t hold a royal title herself, her marriage to James Matthews, who holds a Scottish feudal title, adds a layer of formality. But it’s her long-standing relationship with Kate that is significant. Like Queen Camilla, who keeps a small team of Ladies-in-Waiting who stay out of the limelight, Kate may choose to keep her support circle tight and familiar.
